What a great ride and awesome people!  Thanks again for everything Bubba, Karina, Alphabet man and Liz.  I will be dreaming of the ride while I am back at camp again.  Good to hear Canuck is back home safe and is on the mend.  I have a few photos of the event and I will post them when I figure out how to do that.

Cheers All,

HiAsh

I'm back from our Quebec vacation now. I rode the bike yesterday for the first time since the accident so that I could take it in for the insurance appraiser to take a look at it and create a list of all the parts that need replacing or repairing. He couldn't price it, because they don't have bike part prices in their database, but guessed that it could be as much as $2,000 for the bike repairs. I then dropped it off at the dealership, where they'll go over everything, price it out, and then do the work. I was a bit shocked to hear that the whole thing could take 4-6 weeks, so I won't get much more riding this year.  Sad

I'm healing up pretty well. The road rash on my hand is all gone. There is still a big ugly chunk of road rash on my knee that has to get a fresh dressing every day, but it is about half the size it was. I also have the full range of motion back in my knee. The two sprains seem to be the slowest healing things, especially my left foot. I've got some sort of sprain that runs along the bottom of the foot from about the first knuckle of the big toe back over the ball of the foot and up the arch. Since you use that area every time you take a step, I think it isn't getting the rest it needs to really heal quickly. I try to walk so that I only use the heel of my left foot, which creates a strange looking limp. I don't need the cane anymore though.

I have to go through an injury claim process too to see what I might get for gear replacement and travel expenses related to my wife driving out to get me and the bike. They do cover both travel and clothing, but the description of travel expenses seems to be related to the cost of going for medical treatments, so I'm not sure what will ultimately get covered. I've filled out pages and pages of forms now. The clothing coverage tops out at $1300. With some careful buying from NewEnough close-outs and similar discounts I should be able to replace all my gear.

Glad to hear you're healing up and that the bike is on the mend too!  Thumbsup

I thought I'd send a bit of an update on the progress of me and my bike. I'm almost back to normal, but my left foot continues to cause some problems with a slow healing sprain. I can walk on it without a limp most of the time now, but can't run on it yet. It also gets sore if I'm doing a lot of walking and then the limp comes back.

I'm still waiting to see how much of the travel expenses will be covered for Donna to drive out with my brother's truck and get me and the bike and then return. They did say they'd at least pay 35¢ per km plus cover one night's hotel, so that's pretty good and means I can give my brother a nice little sum to cover the wear and tear on his truck. It also looks like all my gear will be covered up to their maximum of $1300 for damaged clothing.

I heard Thursday from the dealership where the bike is sitting that Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) is totalling the bike off, but I haven't been able to confirm that myself with SGI because the adjuster I'm dealing with didn't call me back yet. I find this hard to believe since I didn't think there was enough damage to warrant that. It could be they are undervaluing the bike or it may be that the $90 per hour labor at the stealership is the problem. If they have totalled it off, I'll look into the option of buying it back, then I can just do the work myself. It's all pretty easy stuff to fix. I could spend the winter trying to source cheap parts on eBay and other sites, and only buy from Suzuki when I absolutely have to. On the other hand, the bike was five years old so maybe it's time to move on to something else. So for the time being I'm still not riding and starting to miss it as I realize there won't be too many more chances before winter.

Glad to hear you are doing well. Ligaments do as they please.  Are you Icing ???  LOL .. just kidding.  Bigok I tease .. but it is the way to healing for sure.

Good luck with the bike ... buy it back carefully as you do realize that once written off ... it will be hard to sell and do not be suprised that there is not stearing head damage to that bike which is long to diagnose and even longer to fix.

Best of luck. BTW ... I have your hat here ...  Bigsmile
