Anybody Touring on a 954RR?
«
on:
January 25, 2007, 04:02:40 AM »
I may be able to swing a cool deal on a 954. Having never ridden one I'm wondering what the sport touring is like on the Fireblade? I saw one 954 rider in the "Anybody else ride a CBR?" thread and I'm wondering if anbody else has toured on one? Let me also say that I'm 6' 4", 225lbs with a 34" inseam. I can take a certain amount of torture and I know the 954 won't be as comfortable as my FLTC but is it totally out of the question?

And has done extentsive STing on her 954...then she sat on my ST3 and saw the errors of her ways

Well if all goes according to plan I'll be picking up the 954 in Phoenix and riding it home to L.A. this weekend. I should be fully "indoctrinated" after that little jaunt. It ain't no ironbutt. I think I'll be okay.

enjoy. Lets point out yer a big guy on a minimalist bike ( what- 55" wheelbase ?) , pretty tight fit I'd guess. FZ 1 might be a better fit. ( another 'micro bike segment' in which Honda has no offering)

Yes, height may be an issue for you. Vivid is all of 5'-nothing, you're 6'4". Helibars and lowered pegs would, of course help. I had a 954 and 500 mile days were no problem with the stock seat and bars (I'm 5'11"). It's a truly fantastic and very underrated bike. I would like to get another at some point.

The reveiws of the ergos by tall guys is mixed. Several guys as tall or taller than me on the CBR forum say the bike fits them great. Some of the moto journal reveiws seemed to say that the bike was smallish.
I guess I'll have to see for myself. The deal is such that if I decide I don't like the bike I could sell it and make my money back no problem.

my ST3 is a better sport-tourer, but I still love the 954 for day rides and weekend overnight rides.

I've routinely done long distance days on my CBR929. At 5-9 160lbs, it fits me perfectly. I might have some concern at your size.

Well, the deal fell through. I did get a test ride. The 954rr was smallish but not too bad. I'm not sure if I could see myself doing multiple 400+ mile days on that bike. All in all prolly not the right bike for me. Maybe I'll check out a CBR1100xx.

I've done 700+ mile days on mine so far - hopefully I can slide in a 1000 miler when I do a cross-country this summer!!!!

It's surprising actually, I'm 6'2" 220lbs., not a real "big guy" but not small either. It fits me very well. I did add a Corbin seat (the removable passenger backrest is great when I give someone a ride and is perfect for securing luggage when I'm on my own. Plus I can take it off for around town), and heli bars. The surprising part is that my knees (34"inseam) fit in the cutouts (?) in the tank. It is one of the few bikes that my legs actually fit!? The new 1000 is too small? Also at my size it is very easy to muscle around which adds to the fun factor. I think it is the best all around bike (for my needs anyway?) that I have ever had. It is a blast in the twisties, decent on gravel/dirt, and comfortable enough for long days. Plus, if it ever tips over I can easily pick it up, even fully loaded!
