It would probably be fine as a starter bike. When I was first thinking about getting into the sport my brother suggested one. I ended up with a Suzuki GS500E though.

YES.  It's also gorgeous and a favorite cult bike.

Many maintenance parts are interchangeable with the BMW F650 (pre-'01).

So, is it as versatile as the F650? Meaning, can it handle logging roads and some minor dirt like the F650? How dependable are they? I can't seem to find much information about them on the internet.

Thanks to all. I settled on a deal with a gentleman for a 2001 BMW R1100RL F650GS.
