Calgary.  Did  a while in Fort Mac a long time ago whilst dating a
girl on the base at Cold Lake.  Good times and fond memories of
Cold Lake, riding season was a wee tad short however.....

I'll say "Hi" when I see you on your Kootenays vacation this summer.  What, you only got a week vacation, and the wife wants to visit her folks in Saskatoon?  Well, maybe next year, you might get a day or two in Nelson... Cool

Spent 48 years in Victoria, Vancouver and the Island and now happily reside in Castlegar here the Kootenays of Southern BC. I miss ocean kayaking and cheap seafood, my friends ...  but now get to do those things on holiday instead of every saturday.

Pretty much.  Been freakin' busier letter carrying than I would have ever imagined, then toss in trying to get some training in and get stuff done for the upcoming wedding  Crazy  I'll be getting my permanent status very soon though (next couple months) which will mean part-time hours inside the plant (until I can transfer out again), and most-likely evening/gravy-yard shift.  Translation - more time during the day to ride both two wheelers  Bigsmile

I had most of my mis-spent youth learning how to go fast in Saskatchewan.  I still claim the best road in the square province is the back way into Waskesiu in the Prince Albert Nat'l Park.  Now I'm in Calgary and doing loops through the Kootneys on the weekends.  I still get back to Saskatoon now and then, but the straight lines they call road planning play hell on the brain.   No wonder I was so fast back then... you can come over a rise and see 30kms of road in front of you.

Yes, but sometimes you won't see the cow in the dip until you're almost on top of it... (guy I knew when I lived in Moose Jaw ran into a cow, full-tilt, on his brand-new '82 Katana...killed the cow, broke both arms, and I saw the bike afterwards, covered in blood and cow hair...).

Well, if you're in Edmonton, you're having the same cr@py weather we're having here in Calgary.  This is not helping the cabin fever Crazy.  Everytime I think I might be able to pull out the KLR, we get another dump of snow! Mad2

Just did a Southern Alberta road trip for work.  This is the first time in years I can remember the entire province being covered in snow!!!.  One good thing the snow has done................. it's actually made Calgary look pretty!!!...  I kid you not!!!!.

Spent a night at a lodge at Anahim Lake about 8 years ago working as an assistant lands officer for the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs out of Williams Lake and PG.  Wish I could have been there in the summer...with a fly rod and reel....and an instructor to properly use said fly rod and reel  Bigsmile

The fishing is great summer or winter as the population pressures are so low that all the lakes have good fishing. Now the bugs in the summer do take away from it a bit and the -40 and three feet of snow take away from it a bit more. I admit that coming from the Island that it takes a bit to get used to but the scenery is great and the ride to Williams Lake is fun in the summer (watch out for cows on road as it is free range in summer). The ride down the "hill" is fun (70 KM of gravel) if it is dry out and as a loop ride it is great if you catch the ferry back down to the island.

Hey, I blew thru Anahim Lake on the way to Bella Coola last summer.
Cool riding but I do tend to agree, riding is a bit better on the

I walk by there every day and see the KLR pretty much all the time (not this week though!).  There is also a diehard FJR1300 rider who parks in the Bow Valley Parkade on 2nd St between 6 Ave and the C-train.

Edmonton too.  Sorry you're so unhappy here, Chink.  I think it's an OK place to live - not as congested as the evil metropolis down highway 2 but with similar amenities.  Maybe I'm OK with it because I don't ride here much.  Not at all in the city, and for the twisties I tow the SV650s to the Kootenays.  For the occasional tour on the GS650G I'm out of the city after 2 lights.  I also use it to ride to Wetaskiwin, where I hangar the airplanes that are my primary hobby (bikes second, 01 Z06 third - it makes a great tow car and it's a fun drive in the twisties if the weather is too poor for the bike).

...and for the twisties I tow the SV650s to the Kootenays.

Hmmm...I see the odd out-of-province trailer around here with a Harley or two on it, but never seen anyone towing an SV650 around.

I met a couple from Sylvain Lake a few years ago, riding stripped-down Guzzis from the late 70s/early 80s.  No fairings, forward clipons, etc.--and they rode 'em here from Alberta for their vacation.  Beautiful bikes...I wish I'd had a camera with me!

You couldn't - it's an enclosed trailer.  A wrist injury forced me to leave the bike at home last summer, but I towed it to New Denver or Nakusp 3 times in 05, mid-week, Sept and June, when the traffic is lowest and it's less likely to be unbearably hot.

Well, I admit to having trailered my bike once, and I rented an enclosed trailer (U-Haul 4 x 6--had to remove the fairing and mirrors to get it through the door).  My Dad was visiting from the Coast, and while here he ended up in hospital for several days due to pneumonia.  He was all set to drive home alone the day they released him, I said no way--I'll drive.  So I rented the trailer, hooked up to his big American car, and drove him to Vancouver; two days later I hopped on the bike and rode home.

As for trailering my bike somewhere just to ride it, well...I live where others come to ride...I do ride around Southern BC, but when I go to visit friends in Waskatenau this summer, I'll take the car!

Calgary's home but the g/f has a house up in Rossland out in the Kootenays.  I do most of my riding in BC.  I have managed to hook up with some of the local Kootenay contingency and hope to join them for their Borscht / Burn / BBQ again this summer.  If you haven't been you need to check it out for some of the best riding and hospitality in Western Canada.

Is anybody going to be riding up to the Comox area from the middle of May to the middle of June? If you do can you give me some advance notice?  I would like to meet as many STN'rs as possible while I am out there.  Looks like we are flying to our deployment now. Is anybody going to be riding up to the Comox area from the middle of May to the middle of June? If you do can you give me some advance notice?  I would like to meet as many STN'rs as possible while I am out there.  Looks like we are flying to our deployment now. So I wont have a set of wheels while there.  Thats why I am asking.

How are you finding Comox Rigger??  I love the area and will be camping at Miracle Beach in a couple of weeks.  Inlove

I returned home to Cold Lake June 24th.  The 6 weeks I was in Comox were amazing!!! I am heading back there again dont know when though.  And I would love to live there.  What a bit of paradise that place is.  And the highway to Tofino is the most twisted road I have ever seen.  No wonder the local spor bike riders love it. They did however tell me that its not a place that forgives stupidity all that much.  Stunning scenery.

So, how do you keep from falling asleep while touring Saskatchewan?

Every time we visit the in-laws out there I just about nod off.  Saskatchewan, it's flat, yellow, and rectangular with only the occasional correction line curve to add a thrill.

Maybe there's a trick I haven't figured out yet.  Headscratch

I did find a curve once. I was so surprised I had to turn around and go back to double-check.

More seriously, you can make it a bit more interesting by sticking to the secondary and tertiary paved roads. Police are almost non-existent on these roads too, so you can be a bit more confident when opening the throttle a bit. I've gotten very good at droning on endless long miles on the first and last day of a trip so that I can get to and from the mountains as quickly as possible.

It's also a great place for Iron Butt runs, unless it gets windy.

Hey Chris I see you found us  Bigok hope you stick around the more Triumph guys the better,  Headscratch  well some may not agree but a couple of us will. Just returned from the lake, Castlegar to Fernie turned out to be a 2 day ride  Bigsmile who knew that Lolo pass wasn't the shortest route  Lol  It was perfect I headed over the pass at around 5:30 PM virtually no traffic a few bikes, 1 Harley (I think) on the east side in the ditch, no skid marks nothing looks like he just missed the corner, poor bugger, there where people attending and they signaled me the OK when I stopped so I continued on, who knows.
Ride safe all

Nude Calendar Seeks to Raise Awareness of Town's Pothole Plight
Tuesday, December 05, 2006

Residents of a small Canadian town are fed up and they are getting naked to prove it.
People in Leader, Saskatchewan, are sick of the lousy state of their main road. In an effort to showcase their frustration to the world, residents posed in the buff with something all too familiar to their town: potholes.
The pictures are part of a special calendar designed to alert people to the plight of Leader's highway, Reuters reported.
Twelve local businesspeople posed in various positions for the calendar, revealing their birthday suits alongside some of their favorite potholes.
Leader, a town of only 1,000 people in a rural area of Saskatchewan, says it doesn't have the money to fix all of its roads.
"The potholes are not small, one-foot diameter potholes. They are many feet across and sometimes they're as deep as a foot deep and sometimes they will stretch for yards," Elhard told CBC television.

Rigger: a termed coined for the aircraft mechanics that used to rig aircraft cabling for structures and flight controls.  I used to be an Airframe Technician in the Airforce and we worked on flight controls as well as other aircraft systems and components.  In my current RCAF (God I love saying that) trade as an Aerospace Control Operator i have an actual callsign or handle.  My current callsign is Stroker.  But many know me as Rigger and for many many years so I am keeping that.
