Does anyone still have a copy of the tech service bulletin? The link above no longer works. I have just started having the EXACT same problem that B-rent had. Not a happy camper.  Mad2

Thanks,
Jeff

I have a copy of the tech bulletin, but not a link.  Try over at:
http://wr250rforum.forumotion.com

I know it's there somewhere.  Mwakey keeps us all up to date with tech bulletins as they come out.

My first guess was he is using automotive oil in his bike instead of motorcycle oil.

But that is the problem everyone reads about and no one seems to ever have.

Are you saying you think I was using auto oil? If so, wrong, I've never once put auto oil in a bike.

To update, I've adjusted my clutch and chain, and so far it seems like the problem is gone. I guess for now I'll keep an eye on it and if/when it happens again I'll take more action.

Tomorrow I'm doing an oil change on the bike, switching from conventional to blend.

B-rent stopped posting before this.  It was probably the loose chain but  Shrug

If it wasn't the chain, it seems to be a unique problem.

For me, the chain was loose. Adjusted accordingly and problem went away.

I didn't realize some bikes were more sensitive than others to loose chains. It's especially strange given the low displacement of the WR.
Is it something about the design?

I think the issue is in the design of the stock rear sprocket.  It has this sort of pseudo cush drive thing that kind of holds the chain off the teeth unless there's much tension.  I think that interferes with the normal tensioning process.

No issues setting the tension on mine once I wore out the original sprocket.

Great bike!
