Welcome! Thank you for the kind offer to be tour guide or route suggestor. There is a lot of good scenery to take in - and many good people to meet along the way. With STN being fairly United States centric we heartily appreciate ride reports from non-U.S. places on our globe. Happy New Year!

Woohoo! Now we have two Spanish members on the forum!

Bienvenido Marcos800, no need to apologise for your English, it is very much better than the Spanish of myself or most other members. Nice to have you here!

Although I have ridden in a lot of European countries I have not had the chance to ride in Spain yet, but I hope to ride there sometime. Maybe I'll see you when I can get there? Cool

Hello to all. I will try to help a bit: I know Andorra and you will not have problems with the hotels because there are a lot of them and of all the prices. Andorra is a small country (the real name is Principat d’Andorra) and the roads quite small but the raise to the port d'Envalira (direction to France) is worth it. Take the French roads up to the province of Navarra with entertaining roads and good asphalt. The zone of Picos de Europa, the roads are narrower and worse asphalt but the places are very nice. I recommend to you Parador de Cangas de Onis, it is a bit expensive but very good at a former monastery of the restored 13th century.
With twelve days you have time of surplus to do good routes and to enjoy the landscapes.
Sorry my bad English.
Good luck and enjoy Spain.

It appears that I will be coming to Spain in March 2010. The two main cities that we will be visiting will be Barcelona & Madrid... Unfortunately, I will not be on a motorbike. The misses and I will be flying into one of the two cities, renting a Car (yuk) to drive to the other city making an overnight stop or two along the way.

If I can convince her, I would like to drive to Valencia to spend a day or two there.

Can you recommend a town or two that should not be missed while driving between Madrid & Barcelona? How about places that should be visited in either City?

Any and All help will be Greatly Appreciated!

Cuenca. Stay in the Posada de San Jose (near the cathedral) The view from the rooms is fantastic. Teruel. Zaragoza (see the cathedral).

I've stayed in all these towns and would visit again. Cuenca is a small town with old and new parts. The old town is more interesting, the new town has cheaper eats. But the star is the geography. Nice biking roads (eat your heart out).

Teruel is a bigger town with amazing architecture. Zaragoza is a large city. I wish I could tell you how to find that fantastic  tapas bar we visited! Like all big cities, you'll wonder what the hell you're doing there until you get into the centre. Good for a tapas crawl.

Hello,

You must visit “Monasterio de Piedra” is one of most beautiful Natural Park in Spain, strongly recommend specially in spring. Have a look in the web and you will see a very nice pics of this park

FJR´s advices are pretty good. I'll spend one day in Zaragoza and then I'll visit Cuenca (it's a small city you can visit in one morning). In Cuenca, don't forget “La ciudad Encantada” is another interesting natural  Park

FJR, I see you know pretty well Spain, Do you come frequently?

FJR, I see you know pretty well Spain, Do you come frequently

Hi Gaw. Your question got me doing a little research, because of my failing memory!

My wife and I have toured Spain in 1988, Picos de Europa, Costa Verde; 1990, Castilla y Leon; 1996, Aragon and Castilla la Mancha; 2003, Andalucia; and 2007, Pyrennes. We've also done flying visits to Madrid and Sevilla.

I love Spain. I grew up in California and learned a little (Mexican) Spanish in escuela. I don't remember a lot, but it does improve the quality of our visits, especially along the Costa Verde. We met a local biker in the Picos area, named Manolo. His English was as good as my Spanish and we managed the language barrier pretty well. Manolo told me that if I ever experienced any hostility in the north, it was because in the south of Spain it was difficult to get a job if you could not speak English. The northerners were afraid of it happening there, too.

Anyway, we've always found the Spanish to be very friendly.

It's been so long since we've been to the Costa Verde, we think that is our next trip, probably in May 2010. I want to see if the little fishing villages of Luarca and Llanes are still the same. Jo wants to see the Picos again. We'll visit some towns we didn't spend enough time in on our first visit, like Oviedo, Leon and La Coruña.

Santiago de Compostela was a favourite place, but I'm not sure it will be the same this time. On our visit, there was a milk strike and farmers had barricaded the roads in and out of Santiago. We were allowed around the blockade and the city was great to walk around. No traffic for two days!

I need to get a plate of Pimientos de Padron.

Oh, you are a real expert in Spain. If you will stay in Madrid in your next visit let me invite you to have a wine and a Pimientos de Padrón tapa

Ride in Picos or in Pyrennes is a beautiful experience, for me both are probably most beautiful places of  Spain

IMO northerners are colder and seriuos at the beginning but after that they are more welcoming, and if you become friend with somebody he will be your friend forever. In the South people is different they are more effusive and talkative but it´s difficult to become friends.

In general the English level in Spain is very low (you only need read to me   Bigok) but in tourist places you can get by witout problems. I'm trying to improve my English (one of the reasons for becoming a member of this forum) but for me it's hard

Luarca and Llanes are still the same but more crowded, I went last year in August and too much people but still lovely. Probably I will go next month and I hope less people but not probably not good weather, any case I love Asturias

Really good situation visiting Santiago without traffic, I think you won't have so luck next time and probably you will find a lot...

Hasta luego amigo, See you in Spain!! Smile

I will definitely take you up on that very kind offer! I've been to Madrid twice. It wears me out! I've never been in such a late-night town. No wonder Madrilenos have to take a siesta!

... (in) any case I love Asturias

¡Cidra y fabada! Wunderbar. Manolo showed me how to "break the cider". That takes some practice!

Yes, break the cider (escanciar in spanish) it´s not easy, sometimes it´s better than a profesional makes it for you because if not you always waste all the cider...
