An older GPS, but now after taking random turns all morning I can get a guided route home. The safety wire should prevent a causal "walk off" of the mount. I figure it is a better idea than removing it all the time.

Very nice! I also got a GPS, but I'm thinking of mounting it right to the windshield. My Sprint has a very deep dash, so I think it should work out ok.

I used a Garmin C320 for years, and although I never let it downpour directly onto the unit...I has seen its share of rain without any problems. Until recently when I picked up a Garmin 2820 NIB off EBAY for $300.

Emergency rain protection will be a quart size zip-lock and a wire tie.

I have an older Garmin Quest. I love it. The screen is a little small and the display is only VGA quality, but it does everything I want it to do.
One nice thing about having a GPS is that it gives you an early warning about sharp turns or intersections when you're on unfamiliar roads.

Nice set up. I use a Garmin with a Ram handlebar mount on my Harley. I haven't found a way to mount the GPS on my BMW, so I carry it in my tank bag's clear map pouch. In addition to driving directions, I have also found my GPS useful in locating gas stations, motels and restaurants in remote areas. I downloaded Harley's dealer directory to my GPS. It wouldd be nice if all mfrs. offered this feature.

Good for you! While they're rarely a necessity, they can make a trip more adventurous.
Rather than the safety wire, I just replaced my knob with a nylok nut. If a person has to use a wrench to get it off I'm comfortable leaving it there when I go into the gas station, for example. My Zumo 550 also "locks" to the cradle.
