Hey Jeff.. you're coming along. Jeeze the light must have been flat. Was it raining when you shot the rider?

It was kinda overcast - maybe mostly cloudy, when I shot the good rider photos. It was the easiest lighting to work with all weekend. Most of it was so gloomy and raining that I had to set the ISO to 400 just to get the other settings I needed to catch them going by at 180mph. With ISO400 comes a shit load of noise with my camera. The flexibility of a DSLR with some good glass would have come in very handy.

Canon U.S.A. Introduces EOS 5D Mark II DSLR Camera
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., September 17, 2008 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera, the long-awaited successor to Canon’s highly popular EOS 5D, introduced in 2005. Building upon the qualities that made the EOS 5D camera so successful, Canon has coupled the creative power of a full-frame CMOS sensor in a relatively compact and affordable camera body, together with groundbreaking HD video capture that opens the door to a much wider range of imaging possibilities for photographers. Along with the ability to capture full HD video clips at 1920 x 1080 resolution, Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera features a 21.1-megapixel full frame 24 x 36mm CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 imaging processor and significantly lower noise, with an expanded sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 25,600.
“The anticipation surrounding the launch of this camera model has exceeded our greatest expectations, and we believe our loyal customers will be awed by the level of innovation and features built into the new EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR. Once they have the chance to experience the camera, we believe they will agree that it was worth the wait,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.

With the little time I got to use your Nikon and it was inside as well, I liked it.

That happened to me when I ordered my 30D.
I still dont think the 40D was a significant jump up from the 30D. When I took a close look at various test images, I never saw anything indicating I was lacking by keeping my 30D.
The difference between the 30/40D and the 5D MkII is HUGE, of course but none of it matters if you dont need it.

Mine is more of a want. The 5D MkII is way ahead of my abilities. But it would be cool to have.

I'm getting promo email on the 5D. Looks like a good cam
21mp & 150,000 shutter actuation, life.
Well Canon wins the mp race.
How big do you want to print? How much storage; interim in CF cards and permanent in hard drive is one going to need to support these files?
Ordinarily Nikon & Canon 150,000 shutter life used to be thought of as adequate. But now when you add movees to the shutter life, it may be inadequate.
Hell, I have 22,000 actuations on my D200 in a year shooting sports, so how long will the shutter on my D700 last if I use movees?
Then add the size of each 21mp frame in these movees to your hard disk..... Jeeze...

I am not too interested in the video or the live view on a DSLR. I just don't get that part

I don't know if I'd use it or not on a dslr. But I do know this. My S2IS P&S has 640x480 video with stereo sound. I use it all the time. I didn't think I would, but I use it enough and the results are good enough that I don't need a separate video camera.

Jeff I just picked up the SD870 and the movie feature does work pretty good. So far its a decent camera.

How bulky is the SD870? That's the one beef my wife has with the S2 - it's quite bulky for a P&S. She wants something small... I want a DSLR. The S2 was our compromise, and neither of us are totally happy with it.

Well last nite I went out to get the moonrise over the Golden Gate Bridge. The damn moon moved over (or the bridge did) and I couldn't get the moon/bridge in the frame.
I tried my 70-200 2.8 instead of a 400mm+. I wanted wider. Last month I tried the f4, but there is quite a difference with 2.8. Hard to control inconsistent glare of headlights here, but here goes
Next month I'll try the D700 and maybe by that time I'll have my D70S sold

How do you determine that number? Just by counting files or ???
