Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly

I have been riding for over 40 years and continue to learn. Headscratch I realized last month that I have become a better slow speed rider because of bicycle riding. You know those u-turns that tighten up your gut and hands. Well they get a lot easier after practicing on a bicycle. Borrow one or ride your own and see the difference after a short time. Next get to the auto parts store and buy the stick on blind spot mirrors. You can see the opposite lane without having to take your eyes off the road ahead. Be careful though because the convex mirror makes the cars appear further away than they actually are. Ride safe and keep your speeds down.

+1 on the blind spot mirrors.  I won't own a bike or car/truck without them.  I feel blind without them when I rent a car for vacation.

Blind spot mirrors are NOT not a substitute for a head check   Ask Jammin four of us watched  in horror as he changed lanes into a mini van, he was lucky the driver laid on the horn and braked, or else Jay would of had a very bad day in Montana! Yes, they are great, don't get lazy!

Don't all bikes come with the euro mirrors where there's a flat section on the inside, and convex on the outside?

2 things that will save your hide...   You mean aside from a roll cage, and a 5 point harness???   Lol

One thing I always wondered about...

You pay decent money for gear that you can ride in the rain, yet they make it in either gray, or black???    With the reduced visability, I would rather have some sort of color, that stands out.  Little LED lights on it, or something.   The biggest killer of motorcyclists, aside from themselves, is other vehicles, with their drivers swearing they never saw us!!!

Stu Monroe(Larry Grodsky's predecessor at Rider Magazine) referrred to the head check as "The Messerschmidt Twitch;"  a term coined by WWII pilots. I don't change lanes without it in the car or on the bike.

You want high-visability?  Check out the Olympia Phantom in hi-viz yellow.  EEK!

I just ordered one... in gray/black.   Embarassment   (Excellent suit for the $, btw.) I was torn, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy the yellow one.  BUT, it does have reflective bits all over it, and I have colored reflective tape all over my V-Strom and my helmet.

Riding a motorcycle is perfectly safe.  And if I'm wrong, may my body be horribly crushed and mangled somehow.

If you go to a competition car driving school, they will teach you to adjust your mirrors so far out to the side that you can only see minimal glimpse of the side of your car (both sides).  Maximizes the width of your sideview for both side lanes, minimizing your blind spot on both sides.  Try it, it works and I'm sure it helps on a bike too!

I like my car mirrors moved in close enough that I can see I left the gas filler door open.

Seriously, the statistics for people being hit from behind by their own vehicle are pretty small. Move them out. Bikes, cars, head checks always.

Dood, interesting bike. Did you customize it yourself or was it all f#@ked up when you bought it?

Blind spot mirror will F you up if your not use to them.  Ride around a parking lot or other non traffic heave area with them on for awhile first to get use to them. Other wise EEK!  Problem I see with praticing low speed turns on a bicycle is that motorcycles are heaver and wide so I'll stick with parking lot drills. Cool

My Fieldsheer jacket came with an outer rain jacket.  You guessed it: black.  But my Frogg Toggs are bright yellow.
