07 ZZR600 Anybody fabricated mounting hardware for GIVI side case?
«
on:
January 30, 2007, 04:51:53 PM »
Just purchased a 07 Kawasaki ZZR600 two weeks ago. Have installed Helibars, MRA touring screen on order, purchased Givi V46 Top Case, and had to purchase a Venture Cycle rack which I'm modifying to accept the top case because Givi discontinued the mount for 2000-2002 ZX6R and 2005-2007 ZZR 600.
My next dilemma is: How do I fabricate mounting hardware for my bike to accept Givi E360 side cases?
If nobody has done this, then can someone please recommend a kit to purchase from Givi which would give me the best chance of being modified to fit my bike?

Are you talking about the actual mounts to the motorcycle, or the mushrooms and wedge that hold the GiVi bags to the mounts? If the latter, those are available in a kit from GiVi.
They are also available from SW MOTECH. Check out the Twisted Throttle site for SW MOTECH accessories.

Well I made a top case plate out of stainless steel that accepts a GiVi case. Are you looking for the exact mushroom to wedge dimensions?

Looking for actual mounting brackets for Givi side cases to fit a 2000-2002 ZX6R & 2005-2007 ZZR600. Nobody seems to make any. I'm hoping someone has made some from scratch or has modified some from another bike to fit mine. Have already ordered 2 sets of the Givi mushroom and wedge kits to use once I figure out the mounting bracket issue.
Tried to order the Givi top case mount from both Twisted Throttle & Ride Now, but they said GIVI had discontinued them. Emailed Givi, and they discontinued them almost two years ago due to poor sales. Purchased a rack and J-Bars from Venture Cycle, and a Givi universal plate with wedges from Twisted Throttle to make my own top case mount.
In a nutshell, anybody know the best way for me to fabricate mounting brackets so I can install Givi side cases on my bike?

Thought about it and abandond the idea when i decided to go to soft bags.
I did make a rake for the tail box based on this picture.
If you used this idea you could fabricate the rectangles the cases would fit to and weld or bolt to the cross bar that goes to the rear peg set.

I'm making something similar to that Givi mount using another product.
The only problem I'm having is with trying to fabricate the rectangles and how to mount them to the cross bar because I've never seen any of the Givi mounts in person. That's why I'm considering ordering some for another bike and then modifying them. Just not sure which bike type would give the best chance for success.

Check this:
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/imagecatalogue/imageview/3181/?RefererURL=/trade/productview/123/96/
It looks like it brackets directly to the grab handle and the cross bar from the pegs to the tail rack.
$154 is a bit rich to spend on something that will get modified. Although this looks like it may be a close fit.
My idea was to get some round stock steel and bend it into the box shape.

That is very close. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll start working on side mounts once my top case mount is finished. May start from scratch or may spend the $150 and modify it a little.

FYI, the Givi ZR-7 side rails are left and right specific, if that makes a difference. The forward mounts are the difference.
A few years ago I saw a website where an engineer fabricated very sturdy side rails for Givi cases using flat-stock aluminum. I believe it was for a V-65 Sabre, and I recall there were detailed instructions and pics. I believe she first made mock-ups from plywood. Some Googlin' might turn up the site.

There is no need to fabricate mounting hardware, you just need to visit the Givi Canadian site. The part numbers are found in the photo!

Oh, one last note. The importer that sells the items lists a lower price in the catalogue so it should be a little less than $1000.

If you are still interested I made a rack system for my 97 Thunderace as Givi never made a rack. It took me a weekend to get it just right. My original design was flawed so I started over. I used square tubing, pipe, and some stock. I can post some detailed pictures for you if you like.

Pictures might make more sense.

It's not pretty, but it's overly built and does the job. I built right before I left for my x-country trip and didn't have much time to grind the welds down and such. It was still wet when I left. I was worried about the tail falling off from all the extra weight in addition to a passenger, but over the last 15,000 miles I haven't seen any stress cracks or indications of failure.
Hope this helps.

I was looking to getting the racking for the zzr600J in Canada and it's discontinued and the 2008 catalogue from Givi was incorrect, it isn't just the website. =( I'm thining I might try the ZX-9R monorack because it seems that only the grab rails are closer together and I think that is probably easily solved by bending the supports appropriately.

I knew I'd seen this somewhere, took me a while to find it. Someone adapted side case racks from a Z7 or Z7S to a ZZR600. It is on SB.N which is a different kind of board than S-T.N. They do have a ZZR600 specific section and it seems to be one of the more popular bike specific sections over there. I have not tried it so I can't comment on the level of difficulty or finished product. I also think you have to join the forum in order to be able to see the pictures (so at least you've been warned).
LINKY:

And apparently that site just went down!
Hopefully it'll be back up in a bit.

My problem with the side cases is that I personally don't like the E21's... I want the PLX's and those might be trickier to rig/mount.
Several folks have rigged the Givi side case and successfully mounted E21 Givi cases.
