What is the point of Vloggers?
«

I'll admit it, I have watched some motorcycle type vloggers. If you don't know what I am talking about see the examples below.
However I don't get the appeal of these videos. What is so interesting about watching some guy riding his bike while yakking about things don't matter? Or them sharing their feelings about everything from dogs to nuclear power?
I haven't looked for it, but there is probably some guy in a Geo Metro vlogging about the giant SUV that just passed him and put him in a spin.

Oh yea Mordeth13, I've watched quite a few of his vids where he's riding in traffic in Tiawan. It cracks me up how he zips in and out of the cars and the cars are pulling out in front of him and he keeps talking like it no big deal.
I guess he's used to it, if it were me there, I'd be a nervous wreck.

those were the worst vids ever...snooze. if i want to hear someone talk to thereselves while riding ill just go ride and listen to my self!!
that m13 guy is a pussy. hes an effeminant introvert that like to teach little kids. he probably didnt do so well socially here in the states so he moved to a country where everyone is smaller than he is. how did i come to this conclusion??? well, hes riding a little 250 (i know, its a big bike in taiwan) and says hes 'such an aggressive rider' cause he uses an incorrect downshifting technique to chirp the rear tire...then he couldnt even do it! he says he gets mad a kids and wants to slap them for teasing dogs...WTF??? youre going to hurt a human to protect an animal??? sorry but thats backwards. kids tease animals...its what they do. if you dont like it, put the dogs on a leash (but leashes are mean, id rather discipline the child physically!). then he thinks hes gonna protect some girl cause a guy touched her arm?? yea, that guitar guy is lucky that m14 dude didnt turn around! m13 acts big and bad, but hed probably get his ass kicked and scream like a girl. he didnt turn around cause he knew he couldnt handle the confrontation. then he waves at some scooter guys and takes the time to turn around, but doesnt wander over to see if he can join them? he didnt cause he was scared of them. 'ohh, they didnt wave, they must be very mean people...im not going to go over there'. what kind of fucking moron gets frustrated and curses him self (and has to point it out to you) because hes having a hard time vlogging. doucebag.

They actually put the camera in their helmet. They use small digital cameras that will fit behind the face shield.

Most people who record video have no idea of critical viewing and they never met a frame they didn't love. Most of those things could be chopped down to 30 seconds of hightlights and any real rider will know what's really the good stuff.

Alright, lets break out the tomatoes.
Honestly, if no one likes this stuff, how would they get so many views and subscribers?? Atlas has 227 and 13m has like 7k+!
Someone else said it. Why do people read twitter, or link rss feeds?
I agree that the constant running talk isn't for me, but it's an alternative to regular blogging right. some people are more visually stimulated, so rather than reading a blog they'd like to view a vlog.
I think with a bit more editing I'd be more inclined to watch either, just to kind of get through the dead air and thought process. There's some other popular Youtube regular that kind of speeds up the time between phrases so its a much more stream of consciousness type video. Even though he's kind of annoying it makes it easier to watch.

The only vlogger I actively watch is Ashf00t:

I also occasionally watch SteelHorseClub.
The moto vloggers actually had a meet in Arkansas last Summer (well, the US based ones, not moredeth13).

You just like Ashf00t because she's a chick.
I actually follow a few of the motovloggers. The ones that just ramble about worthless crap are boring but there are some guys that do great videos. AtlasRider, the guy the first video, is actually somewhat entertaining. The video posted by the OP was one of his driest vids. His touring vids are better.
By far, my favorite vlogger is Billma, who does a series called By Way of Motorcycle. He, on his VFR, and his buddy, on a Busa, travel across the country to see cool stuff and get their pictures taken with all the state signs. Check out some of his videos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPZ6sggtSfc
There were several vloggers that met up in the Ozarks last summer and they are getting together in May again. I plan on going if I can get off work. And I don't vlog. I have nothing interesting to say so I just watch. There are several that need to do the same. Billma actually has some good cameras and has an extensive knowledge of editing. He even has a green screen in his basement.

That was a pretty poor example of a M13 vlog. I watched a bunch of M13 vids about 2 years ago. I enjoyed them at the time. Some were funny ( I recommend "Bikers like to wave"), others were interesting in the sense of seeing what it was like to ride in a city literally halfway around the world. The constant camera/head movement got to me eventually, making me nauseous. BTW, to my knowledge he rides a Ninja 650R, or at least he did in the vids I watched.
Sometimes vlogs can be very useful. One I found on youtube showed me what Wayah Road is like, so I could decide whether to ride it for an upcoming west NC trip:

Alright, I'll admit that I watch a couple of these guys videos. Some of the videos are interesting and useful, and some are just random rambling about stuff that I have no interest in.
The vlogging community is a lot like forums, it's a random collection of people with a common interests who post things about those interests. STN uses posts, they use videos. They have meetups, STN has meetups. A bunch of people met through STN, a bunch of people have met through vlogging. People think they're weird for videotaping their rides and posting them online, people think I'm weird for spending 30 minutes a day browsing STN. It's really not that different. And for those of you who think that most vlogs are just a collection of random ramblings, off topic rants, and other miscalinious web crap, have you seen which section of this forum is the most active?
I am actually trying to get started in vlogging. I'm going to try to do decent editing to keep the footage, as well as the topics interesting. If you think I'm weird, an attention whore, or just some idiot clogging up Youtube you're welcome to let me know, I have thick skin.

This is the first time I've even heard of Vlogging so, as a first time vloggee, I'd suggest :
1) a good editing program and a heavy hand is your ( and our) best friend. We've all seen 5 minute videos that can easily get the message across in 30 seconds. You do want us coming back, don't you ?
2) mount the camera to the bike, not the helmet if you want viewers to get much past the mildly upset stomach point.
3) talk about the ride, not unrelated stuff.
