07 Ninja 650r touring windshield choices
«

Since i've owned the Ninja 650R; I've done several day and overnight trips. GREAT bike after seat fix, except for inadaquate stock shield. I'm 5'9"tall, using stock bars. After I cut 3" off the top of stock shield, ride is much quieter,(clean air)but not for winter. I installed the Zero gravity Touring shield, little better protection, but way too noisey, waste of money; worse than stock; and even ride with quality ear plugs. Has anyone tried the MRA's Vario touring or touring screen w/ good results?
THANKS;
Howie...

From what I've been told the MRA touring screen is pretty much an exact copy of the Kawasaki brand touring screen. Go snoop around the ninja650.com forums. I there's a couple users on there that have installed them, and the general concensus is that it's a better screen than the Zero Gravity touring.

Hey Howard:
I have the MRA touring screen on my Ninja. I like it much better than stock. I can ride farther without neck strain. I put a set of SM bars on risers (i like the upright comfort of the stock bars, but the wrist angle didn't work with my body) so I am guessing the seating position is about the same. I am 5'7" and the air flow is mostly at the top of my helmet. It is an exact copy of the Kawasaki Touring Screen, as I understand, but a lot less $$.

Thanks for reply!
Do you have reduced noise from the MRA touring shield in comparison ?
The ZG Touring is super noisey even w/ ear plugs esp when listening to music.
I think those two shields are similar in height, just slightly further away than the MRA tour shield.

If you end up wanting an MRA touring screen let me know. I'd probably sell mine seeing that i don't use it.

Quiet is subjective, but I think so. My helmet is not exactly the best for noise attenuation. I wear earplugs and after I put the screen on, I did notice some reduction in wind noise.

Put a Puig from BRP on mine, better than stock but still loud, and wind hits me at upper chest (5'9", 29 inseam).

quick question since its "sort-of" on topic.... Today I got to do some serious country road riding, 60-75 mph. I found if I sat up vertical like I was on a standard, I had very little noise, but the wind felt like it wanted to throw me this way and that. If I tucked in closer to the tank, the wind buffeting went away, but the noise level was much louder... I figured that is to be expected based on what I have read ? The closer you get to the wind coming off the windshield, the louder it will be?
For reference, I am 6 ft and have a shoei rf-1000 with all the vents open today. Sitting upright is pretty comfy except for the way the wind will occassionally try and throw me around
How would a double bubble or the above mentioned touring screens affect that ride? I get the sense, it would reduce the wind issues, but increase the noise?
Thanks all!!

I'm also considering the MRA Vario-touring screen. Not sure the differences between it and the touring shield. I'de probally just use it for hiway and cold weather.

Molin,
I had the same problem, feeling like I was about to be blown off the bike and the best way to fix it that I found was a lower set of bars. Used the the BikeMaster Superbike bars, cost about $20 and had them on in about an hour. The change in riding position leans you forward and down an inch or two. You loose very little low speed comfort and agility, but at highway speeds the lean counteracts the wind blast and becomes much more comfortable and consistent. An additional benefit is found when the roads get twisty, the lower bars transfer more weight to the front and allow for better body positioning. Jonny Monsoon found the same on a friends bike. Really transforms the handling.

Thanks for reply; I'm not sure if the MRA Touring shield would be any quieter than the ZG touring I already have. The height seems to be the same. What would you want for it $$ , and what would be the shipping to NJ?

I'm 5'9" and have lower bars on my 650R. With the touring screen I find that the wind is more noisy because it hits at the top of my helmet. With my Suomy this wasn't a big deal but with my Arai its pretty noisy. Make me an offer if you want it. It's in decent shape. No cracks or anything just looks like a windscreen that was used for about 8 months.
