I don't know if many people have checked out the new Cal 24 website, but it is really excellent.

The way it is set up as a central clearinghouse not only for Cal 24 results, Ride Reports, and photos, but also with information about ALL the major rallies across the entire US.

It is a tremendous resourse with lots of excellent information that I otherwise would have never found.

I just read Meese's 2007 Ride Report, which was really superb.

Tom, it was nice meeting you at White Stag.  I really enjoyed hearing your stories about those Nevada Rallies in the past.

Alex, many thanks for your efforts.

You did a great Job!!!

Thanks Doug!  I had fun putting it together.  If you run across something interesting that's rally-related, yet not up on the www.cal24.com site yet, feel free to post it on up.  (Or just send me a link to it and I'm happy to do so).

If anyone has a set or ER-6's they'd care to part with, or knows where I could find some tomorrow in San Jose, I'd appreciate it! I can't find mine anywhere. I'll be at the starting point Friday afternoon.

Woo Hoo! My third Cal24 complete! Again, it was a lot of fun. This was Andrew's first rally ever and he managed to get a solid 5th place in a field of very experienced vetereran riders. Color me very impressed. More later. I'm tired!

I wasn't posting during the rally- I was busy riding the rally.  Twofinger

I only caught minimum grief for the fact that I left my rally flag hanging on the third bonus location. Duh.

I lost a lot of time during the rally due to a problem with my farkle wiring. I lost power to my GPS, heated clothing, and aux lighting. About three hundred miled into the rally, I was passing near Bakersfield, so I went off route and stopped in at my home to fix the problem. I ended up having to bypass some relays and I was back online. It was nice to have my GPS and XM radio back online. Then I managed to pop the wire apart on my cheapo ear buds.

The stop off at Bakersfield cost me about 2.5 hours- around and hour for the fix, and about 40 minutes or so each way off track. Were it not for that delay, I would have gone for three large bonii in Sequoia (the General Grant Tree) and Yosemite (Glacier Point and Wawona) and still been ahead of where I was.

I ended up having a great time, and finishing around 16th. It was a great ride on its own. But it was also a great opportunity to test out some new systems and gear that I'll be using in the Iron Butt Rally in a couple of months.

Here's the last photo of my flag in the rally... the second photo bonus. D'Oh!

And the three Muffler Men I got as bonii:
San Jose

Bakersfield:

The last rally bonus for me at around 4:10

Here's a SPOT track of the route I rode, running counterclockwise. I was asleep for the red line... that was the drive home from San Jose after the rally.

Cal 24 was great. Fun riding with all you guys. I am most impressed with Andrew the SamTrans dude - he kicked butt on his very first rally. To steal a line from someone: Riding moto bikes is good fun!
