Get it while you can.  Clems is moving (see below)

"PORT MATILDA, Pa. -- Clem's BBQ, on old Route 220 in Port Matilda, will move into the former Sassafras Cafe in Antis Township.

Owner Clem Pantalone said the new extension of Interstate 99 cut his business by about 60 percent.

The move is expected sometime in March."

I think the move has been pushed back to sometime in April or May.  I can certainly do a drive by for anyone a day or two out since it's about 5 minutes from me.

The Clems on route 22 in Blairsville has also moved. The funky roadside location on 22 (west-bound side) had to be closed due to the highway reconstruction. So they moved a few miles east to a new (larger) building on the east-bound side. No big sign, so you have to be looking for it.

Where the heck is the former Sassafras cafe?

Anyway, I'm about to hop on the bike and ride to Altoona.  I'll head that way and see if it's still there.

EDIT:  Stopped in and they told me that they're moving in May, so your plan is still good, Garry.

I also found out that they're not moving to the old Sassafras Cafe (which I also found today).  They're taking over Sammy's Bar-B-Q, which is south of Tyrone on 220-Business, just south of the bridge and a touch north of the Tipton exit off I-99.

Darn shame they'll be in an actual building.  Kinda takes away from the ambiance.

I was enjoying my new found unemployment today and took a ride north to see how the roads are in the northern loops of Garry's suggested routes.  In a word, fantastic.

With the exception of 144 between the Big Rock and Renovo, and the section north of Ole Bull State Park that was tar and chipped last summer 144 is clean from Milesburg north to Galeton.  The two sections I mentioned are terrible.  You will crash on those two sections if you're not extremely careful.

Wykoff Run is in fantastic shape.  Smooth and not a pebble on it.

There were plenty of elk on the sides of 555 today was well.

Is Big Rock the large piece of rock on the eastern side of 144 before the downhill twisty bit?

We're going to be coming down 144 so if you can pinpoint the dangerous spots for us non-locals it might save a bit of plastic.

The twistiest part of 144 is one of those sections. Heading south from Renovo on 144, you cross the bridge, parallel the river for a bit then the houses end and you start a nice several mile climb up the mountain. Fun road. Once you hit the summit, there is a tricky off-camber, blind double apex 25 MPH corner that claims many riders. Then it continues on nicely to "The Rawk" (a large graffiti covered rock on the left, if heading south). That whole section was tar/chipped last year(?) and sounds like it's still very dirty. The road doesn't get much traffic, so it takes a long time to clean up.

I think the best part of 144 that is north of 120/Renovo is from 120 up to Tamarack. Nice sweepers. Sounds like that is still clean. Farther north is Old Bull State Park and then a tar/chip section.

An alternate route from the north to Renovo is:
287 south out of Wellsboro
right on 973 near Salladasburg over to jct 44
right on 44 north? past jct 664 (nice climb up the mountain) and on to SR-1073/Hyner View Rd
left on Hyner View (narrow road, I think it got repaved last year) to Hyner Overlook entrance rd (signed)
left on Hyner Overlook entrance rd, up the mountain to the famous overlook
turn around and head back down to Hyner View Rd.
left on Hyner View to jct 120
right on 120 west to jct 144 in Renovo

My daughter and I were really looking forward to this!!!
Unfortunately, the economy of the times has caught up here.   Yup, got the ole, "things have really slowed down, so we don't need you now" speech.  Still waiting for the unemployment to catch up.  For some reason if you have it direct deposited into your own account it takes a month to get in there.. EEK! Headscratch

The way things are going, you may be seeing the SV in the For Sale section sooner, rather than later.  Have been tempted to hold off, and say F it, and run the bike withthe dead tags, etc...   (this after seeing 6 bikes on Sunday running dead tags, one with no sticker, one with no tag  EEK!).   My luck though is I would be the one to get caught.  Rolleyes

I guess it's about time I try to find a bed.  I have not made a reservation & would like to split a room.  As with others the economy has been less then kind so I'm not going to spring for my own room, but would be willing to split one.  I been told I'm a light snorer.  Headscratch

I might have half a room available. I have a reservation at the Super 8. Need to check with someone else first though...
