Xodus, I don't believe we know each other. What and where are the Wednesday night outings? I am pretty green to m/c but am hooked in everyway.

Its more about supporting a local American Legion then kicking tires. Yeah the food sucks but they have been doing it for years ! I have been going for over ten years and some months its packed ( 1000 plus bikes ) Grant it this Sunday there may only be 20 bikes .. But the coffee will be hot and the food will suck but the 50 minute ride for me and my friends to get the will be great (cold but great) .. And as far as the roads go there are some great roads to get to Ephrata ...

Agreed... I ride up there and meet up with some friends, walk around for a few minutes, then head out... its just something to do and a reason to ride...

We drive past half a dozen good places to eat breaklfast to eat there. The American Legion has a long history of being in service to vets. Good enough for me.

The American Legion has only recently been involved. Ten (?) years ago, and prior, the traditional meet-up was The Cloister restaurant on Route 322, with cycles parking in the factory parking lot across the street. That's the original First Sunday, and it's still a popular spot, though much less known than the American Legion. It's the location still listed on the Aerostitch happenings page, as well as some other sites. The factory across from the restaurant has since become a popular church, so the parking is limited to street-side and behind the restaurant. So sometime in the past ten years, motorcyclists started going to the Legion parking lot instead, and the Legion started offering breakfasts. Maybe someone else knows better about this history, as I don't actually attend either place for breakfast - I just live here and see where folks gather.
And yes there is good riding if you know where to find it, but it's not on the main roads. I usually only ride into the Legion to have a walk around, then vacate to ride. It's a good excuse to go riding anyway.

+1 on what others have said - it's a good excuse to go riding. And while the roads around the area are not world-class, they're loads better than my choices down here in SJ farmland. Meet some friends for a ride up, walk around a bit, grab lunch and ride home. A nice 1/2 day immersed in biking.

Yup -- I go for the ride and the bikes. I transferred my AmLegion membership from a local post here in DE to Ephrata last year just to help support those who support us.

Geeze, hopefully April 5th. will at least be above freezing. It's been a below average temperature very cold winter.

Yes it wasn't that bad out today, good for at least a small ride. I had a cold the past week and it was a bitch not going riding at all. I may head out tomorrow for another small ride depending on the roads. It would be fun to see how many bikes go to First Sunday in the snow.

Just got back from an over night trip to Findlay, OH, it was raining half the time on Friday, by the time I got to Mansfield, OH it was snowing. When I left Findlay at 7am this morning is was 16 degrees and still kinda snowing. I think I've had enough snow for one weekend... oh what the hell, maybe I'll show up tomorrow. Rince, you eat at the Legion or somewhere else?

Wow, Smoker, those are some serious miles in some serious cold.
I typically eat at home but would meet up for breakfast if there's a time.

March 1, 8:36am, snow covered cars, wet roads, and 26 degrees. I can't afford a spill on some random ice. Call me a wimp if you must, but I'll see you in April.
