This is the official thread for info on ESTN 2009. The people have spoken! Here are the details:

WHERE: Lake Placid, NY

WHEN: September 11 - 13 (Fri - Sun)

LODGING: Econo Lodge in Lake Placid. Call (518) 523-2817 x300 to reserve your room. More info on the hotel at http://www.econolodge.com/hotel-lake_placid-new_york-NY128?promo=gglocal

We have a block of 30 rooms reserved at the Econo Lodge. It is located 1 mile east of Lake Placid on route 73. The ESTN group rate is $85/night per room plus 10.75% taxes ($94.14 total). Any rooms that are not reserved by August 11th will be released. People will make their own reservations. Call (518) 523-2817 x300 to reserve your room. The group name is "Sport-Touring.Net"

T-shirts: no interesting final artwork ever got done, so all we have is an 11th hour "euro oval" logo available from http://www.CafePress.com/ESTN09

Group Dinner: there is no official group dinner. People are on their own both nights. Lots of good places in town, just not conducive to large groups on a Sat. night.

Roads/Routes: there are two main routes: Dacks Sampler and Vermont Loop with a few variations on each. Do them as is, or roll your own.

Things To Do/See: Lake Placid has lots of stuff to see/do, mostly centered around their hosting two Winter Olympics.

The usual plan is to ride to Lake Placid on Friday, then meet people and hang out in the parking lot Friday night. Ride locally in small groups on Saturday, followed by a group dinner (?) and more BS'ing in the parking lot late into the evening. Ride home on Sunday.

I hate that I'm going to miss ESTN this year.  I plan on heading up there the first week of June.  If there's anything you guys want me to check out, let me know.

I'm a tentative go.  Got Indy MotoGP 2 weeks before that, and the AMA race in Jersey the weekend before.  Going to be biking overload  Bigsmile

Dates circled on calendar. Smile

FYI – I took the trek up White Face Mountain last fall.  It’s all about the scenery/view, not the thrill of the ride as the speed limit is 25 MPH as I recall.  You couldn’t go much faster anyway as the road is extremely bumpy and generally in poor shape.  There is a charge per person of around $8 or $9.  The view from the top is awesome and well worth the trip.  There is also a restaurant and gift shop if you are inclined to lunch.  Hiking White Face and other mountains in the area is popular.  We saw a half dozen folks that were either coming up or going down.  They looked weathered and experienced.  I’m not sure I’d want to try it without proper gear and preparation.  Here’s a link for those interested.

This pic was taken from the observation deck looked back down the road we drove up.
