Google says that I'll be five hours from this event come September. I don't know if/when I'll commit to coming, but if I do, it'll be for Saturday evening only. It'd be interesting to meet some of you eastern fools  Bigsmile

Hmm - interesting. I have very close friends of the family that live in Gloversville. I could do a Friday night jaunt up to there and then cruise in mid-day Saturday. Or better yet, take the "long way" in  Wink

I found a nice image of a gold medal from Lake Placid. I'll suggest that someone with mad Photoshop skillz change the text on the left to read something like:

MMIX
ESTN
GAMES

And then we can maybe put some text around the outside of the medal. At least put the STN URL on the bottom. Other suggestions for text, or other medal 'chops are welcome.

Here is the image:

Hey all, I just got back from Lake Placid and stopped by the hotel you'll be staying.  It's a nice clean little place with a good parking lot to hang out in at night.   Lol

Here's a shot I took of the Econo Lodge.

We don't have a T-shirt thread yet, but I'm sure people will be interested, especially if someone comes up with a cool design.

I have an idea that is easily applied to different tee shirt colors and types.  A ST.NET white oval (think Euro sticker) over the breast with ESTN 2009 across the shoulders, like college & prison clothing.  I like bright colors like red & orange or don't get dirty colors like gray & brown.

By the way where can I get one of those Euro stickers for my bike?

Anyone participating who actually had an association with the Olympics? I know I am dating myself, but I was an interpreter for the Soviet Union (Russian) teams in 1980. I was at "THE" hockey game (unfortunately I am not a fan, so someone would have enjoyed it much more than me). Would like to know if anyone else participated back then. I would love to return to see the town and the venues. Maybe me and my fiance can journey up there, NY is beautiful that time of year!

My wife did her graduate planning thesis on "induced growth impacts of hosting the 1980 Olympics." We have a place northeast of Saranac Lake, will be up there during this time period in Sept., and I love the roads up there, so I'd love to join the festivities.

Just spotted your location which bears a distinct resemblance to mine (Harwich).

My son (Ducati 750ie Monster) and I will likely be riding from the Cape to the 'dacks some time prior to this event. We hope to be joining another Duc and another Beemer for the ride, so a heads up in case our schedules can mesh.

I will be on a Duc and possibly with a beemer, too.  This is gonna be the "must attend" event of the year (decade?)!

OK Folks, the STN National is behind us and this event is two months away. Our block of rooms goes away on Aug 11, so make your reservations soon!

Here's what needs to be done:

1) T-shirt design

2) Suggested roads, rides, routes

3) Group dinner to be organized

4) Someone to hustle up some prizes

I will start new threads for topics 1 and 2 and will inquire what our options are for #3 today when I call and make my reservation (yes, I'm a slacker).

It would be great if someone that has some free time could step up and try to hustle some free stuff to give away at the group dinner. "R Doug" took the lead on that last year and did a fine job. There's just too much on my plate to do everything by myself, so prizes will be the first thing to drop off my radar screen.

I just got off the phone with the hotel. Turns out I did make a reservation when I signed the contract/etc back in March...

There are LOTS of rooms still available. In fact, I'm a bit worried at the lack of reservations at this point. There are only 7 rooms booked (out of 30) reserved. Come on folks. We had poll after poll after poll and Lake Placid was the clear choice. Let's get some reservations happening.

If numbers are going to be way down from the last two years (50 - 60), then it would be nice to know that now while trying to plan a group dinner and T-shirt order. There are minimum numbers for that stuff and we would be way short of that given the few reservations so far. We could also release some rooms early (our deadline is Aug 11) if we don't need everything in the block.
