We still need planning for a dinner,I have been getting called into work (Regular job) for a few hours ,here and there at random besides working part time ,and it does not lend itself to having a good amount of time to properly search. Can anyone help or plan the dinner?

I might be able to help.
I work about 60 hours/week but since I live here I can get it done over the next month or so.
What do you need?

I haven't eaten there in a couple of years, I'll try to go sometime in the next week or two.
The food is basic American- sandwiches, burgers, chicken fried stake, etc. I always thought it was pretty good.
They could hold 50 people I am pretty sure, though that would fill it more or less.
I'll try to go by in the next couple of days and get a paper menu, and I'll ask if they are interested.

OK, I just called in a flavor from one of my existing relatives (still in Gunnison).
Marios. Marios, Marios, Marios. There. I said it. I'm showing my preference.
Marios Pizzaria, Gunnison CO
http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-19739525R-marios_pizzeria-i
We would have to book pretty much the whole place for a few hours. But the atmosphere, the food, the beers, the staff, it pretty much has exactly what ST.N is looking for. The business was 15years old when I first went there 35 years ago, and it hasn't changed significantly in that time (other than adding room for more patrons).
As well, another plus, my own cousin is the day shift manager. And could probably be talked into taking care of us all in a family way.
My cousin is checking on max capacity and I should know in a day or so. But I'm putting it out there, Marios is where the locals eat. And the tourists. And the college kids. And the alumni. People that leave Gunnison come back to visit and Marios is where they go to eat. It's also small enough to keep the ST.N people connected, not spread out all over a restaurant. My 2cents.

Do they have a full bar for those of use that desire something stronger? Otherwise sound like a great choice.

Unfortunately no. Beer and wine only, but there is a sports bar (Timbers) directly across the street that would be a natural next step after a good dinner.

I will drop by Marios, the Quarter Circle and The Gunnisack (my favorite) in the next couple of days and get general info.
I wonder if any restaurant in the Gunny area is going to want to be reserved for a couple of hours on June 16.
Also, if they are willing they will want a hefty deposit to be sure they don't lose their shirts. Any plans for collecting a deposit?

How/what is the Gunnisack? It opened after I left, and I'm still trying to figure out where exactly it is... Main street up from the W-Cafe? Or on the other side of the street? I'm trying to figure out which space it took up (there used to be a hoity-toity place on the east sid eof the 100 block of Main right by Ellis Jewelry... oh crap, Ellis has been closed for 10+ years... that won't do as a frame of reference...).

In the summer restaurants are pretty full during primetime 5:30 to 7:30 due to tourists, even on Tuesdays I think. But I'll ask.
LeaninTree - the Gunnisack opened 5 years ago, next to what used to be Ellis Jewelry. They are closed Tuesday night but might be willing to open for a 50-60 people guaranteed crowd and their food is very good and reasonably price, IMO.
I'm leaving work early today to drop by the various restaurants.
More info tonight

Gunnisack - OUT - they would have to close the restaurant for that size a crowd and they're not willing to do that
Marios - probably OUT - same issue, I will talk to the owners on Friday to confirm
QuarterCircle - was closed this afternoon, I'll drop by there Thur during the lunch time
Palisades - IN - they can accommodate that crowd easily in one room and have experience doing it - the food is pretty good there, prices are reasonable (dinner + 1 beer for $15-$25), parking is easy and somewhat contained (bikes are
NOT
quite so open to casual idiots in cars), selection is good. Burgers, some pasta and seafood, sandwiches, mixed drinks at the bar, beer, ... lots of advantages and my favorite since the Gunnisack is out. LOW DEPOSIT or maybe none. I talked with the manager/bartender and he seem cool and competent.
One other possibility - Trough Restaurant - 1 miles W of Gunnison, steak, prime rib, some seafood and wild game, excellent salads, very good to excellent food, somewhat contained parking, HOWEVER cost of dinner + 1 beer would be $22.5 to $35 or so. If there is interest I will go see them. What do you think?

The Palisades was on my list,Its like a mile to it from the INN,correct? The only reason I was looking at the others first was the walking distance hope, but hey we gotta do what we gotta do
besides them having experiance with groups is good

I will measure distance from the Gunnison Inn, but it's more likely about 2/3 of a mile.
I'll posted highlights of the Palisades menu this evening.
Only problem with Palisades is that it is likely to be slow with so many people arriving at once. But they have a decent selection of appetizers, which should stave of hunger till the main course.

I know a shortcut if you don't mind cutting out cross country through the college sidewalks... (big enough for a snowplow though!)

Based on my experience with the Nationals and STNers, this one sounds perfect. Someone will always grumble about something ("they don't have fondue!"
) but I give it

Only problem with Palisades is that it is likely to be slow with so many people arriving at once. But they have a decent selection of appetizers, which should stave of hunger till the main course.
lol - no one's ever on time for these things anyway

Based on my experience with the Nationals and STNers, this one sounds perfect. Someone will always grumble about something ("they don't have fondue!"
) but I give it
If they don't have pickled goat's eyeballs, I'm gonna be pissed.

palisades menu highlights
===================
appetizers
----------
jalapeno poppers, buffalo wings, chicken tenders, quesadilla, chips & salsa, mozzarella sticks, shrimp cocktail
salads and soups
----------------
cajun gumbo, chil, chef salad, seafood salad, caesar salad, taco salad, mandarin chicken salad, fried chicken salad
sandwiches
-----------
burgers, tuna melt, hot ham & cheddar, turkey & swiss, french dip,, blt, reuben, buffalo burgers, pesto chicken breast, others
entrees
-------
shrimp platter, fish & chips, chicken strips, prime rib ($18-27), rib eye steak, new york steak, flat iron steak, tenderloin steak, ground angus steak, steak and shrimp, chicken friend steak, chic, porkloin, mesquite chicken, chicken milano, atlantic salmon
pastas
------
grilled chicken fettuccine, seafood pasta, pasta primavera
sides
-----
bread, fries, onion rings, cottage cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes & graves, garlic bread
drinks
-----
various soda, beer (coor lite, miller lite, newcastle, guiness, shiner bock, bridgeport IPA, fat tire), milk, root beer, tea
I think the food is pretty good - not fabulous but pretty good.
A burger costs $7, prime rib $18 and up, chicken fried steak $11.95.
I think the average dinner, with 1 beer, would total about $13, less if you get a coke, but you could spend $35 if you got the biggest prime rib and had a couple of beers.
The restaurant also has a bar. There is no taxi service in gunnison so you'd better plan on walking or having a ride home if you have a bit too much.

Uhh, no BACON on the menu? Could be a deal breaker for this crowd.

You might want to work with them to limit their menu for that night - select a few items for everyone to choose from so they're not completely overwhelmed by the STN onslaught.

I have a contact from another moto group that met in Gunnison a few years ago. He says that FB Catering (John Guerrerie 970-641-0644) treated them right. Seems like it might have been a bigger group though. I guess they rented some space eat the fairgrounds or something.
