Decided to try out this "synthetic oil" stuff and see what all the fuss is about.  We'll see how it does when I go ride tomorrow.

Okay, so it was Friday, but installed a pair of bar risers, 1" lift, 1" back.  No pics, was in a rush as always.

Took pictures of it yesterday and put it up on Craigslist an hour ago: http://reading.craigslist.org/mcy/1222236563.html

Now I'm trying to figure out why it won't show up as a new listing -- it only appears if you know the exact link.

I got to working on the RE5 Iron Butt Rally bike. The contact breaker cam was pretty badly corroded on the rally bike, while the one on the project bike looked great. So I ended up swapping this:

For this:

Notice any difference?
Gapped the points and cleaned up some internal bits after the cam swap.

Besides commuting to work on it I used it for an errand to the county office to drop off a waiver form.  When I came out I saw two pirates parked in the spot next to me.  I greated them and commented on it being nice to see other out riding even though the day was not the best in the weatehr department (not raining, but threatening to).  They noticed my Icon hiviz vest and asked if I was an instructor (MSF Iassumed). I said "No, I wear it because I have noticed people see me better when I wear it so I wear it".  To this I got the standard pirate answer. "That is what we have loud pipes for".  I told the two gents that I am not going to argue with them, but when you get right down to it loud pipes have done far more damage to our chosen sport than anything else they may or may not have accomplished. They just looked at me with the typical pirate blank stare they get when you question their wisdom so I bid them have a good day and off I went.  I had also noticed that no helmets were in evidence either.

I just finished cleaning the chain, checking the slack, and lubing it up again.  As I was cleaning up old chain fling from the underside of the bike, I noticed that at some point between when I changed my tire and today that something hit me and took off a good part of the lower left fairing.  Sonofabitch! Mad2  It wasn't something obvious from standing next to the bike, since it was only the lower part of the fairing, next to the exhaust pipe.  I never would have seen it if I didn't clean the chain today.  I can't even think of when it may have happened. What did you do to your bike today

I de-mummified my GL1800.  Finally replaced the trunk/saddlebag latches with the updated version I'd bought last year to cure the left saddlebag sticking problem.  Changed the oil.   Bled and refilled the front & rear brakes, which is a certified PITA to do with the Wing's linked braking system.   Replaced the stock brake bleeder screws with speed bleeders - managed to break one off as I was tightening it down, which precipitated a trip to Sears for a bolt out kit and a delightful extra hour of work.   Crazy

Actually rode it in to work this morning.  Odd getting reacquainted with the lumbering beast.

I killed the lumbering beast over the weekend.  Was tooling down the road w/friends, heading up to Sykesville to look at Royal Enfields, happily listening to tunes when suddenly the tunes just stopped.  Hmm, that's odd.  Continued riding while punching buttons in an exploratory way -- no radio, no CB, no intercom.  We came to a stop and I decided to hit the kill switch and try a restart.  Bad idea - bike wouldn't crank.  Rolled over to the curb, broke out tools and and checked the fuses & relays - all good.  Left the bike there and caught a ride back for the cage & Kendon, with a stop at Battery Warehouse for a freshie (current battery was about 4 years old).

Got back to the stranded beast, replaced the battery and the bike cranked right up.   Smile  Got 15 miles down the road and the bike crapped right out again.  Sad   Luckily the cage & Kendon were escorting me.  We got it aboard and to the local stealer right at the crack of closing time; even though the counterman said they wouldn't prolly get to it for a couple weeks.  Casual surfing on the Wing boards indicate either a bad ground somewhere, or the alternator's given up the ghost at 116K miles.  On the positive side, I got a call just yesterday from the shop advising that my Wing is among those Honda's deemed worthy of a frame reinforcement weld; which is covered under warranty.  The required teardown to do that will save me significant bucks of labor usually needed to check the ground (under the fuel tank) and replace the alt.

Me too. I tried the GenMar's first - good product, just didn't fit the old Bandit. They put the bars into the tank.

Richard at RL Motorcycle was very good about the whole thing and took them back no questions asked. Thumbsup

Then I put on a set of ROX risers and they are fantastic! Very versatile. Bigok

Son #2's Valk has been my shed for awhile now.  It's led a hard life in an underground garage that spewed all sorts of crap on the uncovered bike.  It's looking a little down.

Wednesday, I was going to remove the front wheel so he could buff it out and I could find out why it didn't want to turn.  I'd removed the brake calipers, no problem.  The pinch bolts on the front shocks were not so easy.

I tried to remove the first of four with an 8mm allen wrench.  For my trouble, I had the wrench snap, and received a cut that required 4 stiches to close.

Went to HD this afternoon and bought some metric sockets.  The Fu**ers are coming out!
