Wired up my HID headlight. What's slick is that this Beemer came with factory fog lights. They use H7 bulbs. They are now my "default" low beam. I still have the stock high beam, and the HID can be switched off. Because, as everyone knows, HID's are legal for off highway use only.  Wink

Gave my Virago a belly full of Redline 20-50 and a new filter, then I swapped out the fork oil and shortened the spacers 5mm for a bit more sag and turned the Race Tech Emulator another full turn for less brake dive.

Let you know how this works our tomorrow when I take it down the coast - SF, Pescadero, 84, Skyline 4 corners, 84, coast, SF.

Drained the oil and changed the filter, then realized I don't have any oil to fill it back up with. EEK!

So I spent the rest of the afternoon tearing out the old air shock and installing something a little more up-to-date.

Today,we put some color on my oldest bike...79 GS850G model...did a base coat clear coat...uunder a shade tree....and thats where the term shade tree machanic came from. The base coat looked flat and abraisive ...Then Tim {my painter and Bro in law} started laying down the clear....with the first coat the metallic started popping out big time! My fuel tank had a couple of dents I repaired and I remarked to Tim I couldn't see where I had done the repairs.....Tim quipped he was "fixxin to show me where the dents were...} only he couldn't see where I  had worked....I have a decal kit for it and when we get that work done three more coats of the clear are going on.....This will be the completion of a 1 1/2 year project......I'v owned this old bike since 1983 so its sortta special to me.....it rides  good, is good on fuel
Just one of those keepers that come along...I would post pics but I cant shrink them enough to get em by...suffice to say this thing will look just like a new 1979 model...I can't wait to get some fuel in it and go for a ride......

I had one of those - it was my first bike displacing more than 160cc.  I miss having the shaft drive sometimes.

Like yesterday, when I took off the front sprocket cover to repair the damage the loose speedometer sensor had caused, which meant a lot of cleaning of year-old chain grease and stuff.  After the JB Weld set and I put everything back together, I figured I was so greasy I might as well clean the chain.  Adjusted it a bit too.

Lastly, I replace the broken left front turn signal, which has been that way since last August.  Just never got around to it, mostly because my bike always manages to fall over somewhere within a short time after fixing the turn signal that got broken the time before.  Sigh.

repaired a rear indicator. which promptly detached itself when the engine was started again. Stil, it works.

Then rode it a light speed all around Sussex. Brilliant fun.

Yes. Short of some bruising and very minor road rash where the mesh jacket gave way, I walked away from a 70 MPH crash without any major injuries. The same can't be said for the bike. While it looks OK from the surface, it's now leaking oil from the valve area, which is not a good sign (on the boxer engine, this is a sign that I've punched a hole in the engine).

Sucks totally!! Glad you are ok though. I saw the pics...Dudes k1200s is repairable. I'd like to have it. Your bike did not look to bad either but if you say it has a hole in the engine its gone. Go ahead and cash in your insurance.

I cleaned mine....it wont quit freakin raining. Crap I should have moved to seattle?
