I haven't winterized my bike yet. My goal is to ride in December and, with luck, January. Beside pulling the battery and storing it in the basement for the latest cold snap (right now 18 degrees in RW), I am still counting on this whole El Nino thing to keep winter mild, and possibly bring some "warmish" days just yet. Are they're any other hopefuls out there?

I ride year round, it just slows down a bit in the winter months. Soon as the roads are clear of snow, I'm back out there.

I will ride more this winter, I don't put the bike up! I just stand at the door (helmet in hand) and wait for decent weather.

The Zed is coming apart for needed maintenance, tuning/tweaking and replacement of body panels.  I found someone to paint RH side panel for $100.  Think I might let him do that.  What the heck.

The little naked 599 gets you cold real quick!   Who knows though...weather permitting. Smile

There's some guy two businesses down from my current office in New Berlin, WI that rides a white KLR.  He rides it almost everyday.  It is farkled with a plastic milk case.  I'm not kidding! I find it humerous.

Some of the most hardcore riders I've met have plastic milk crates on their luggage racks. One of them is xspain. That guy doesn't even own a car.

I find the milk crate a funny anachronism.  I'm 44.  I rememer LOTS of bikes had plastic milk crates for "luggage."

+1.  I keep Stabil in the fuel from Nov thru March, but I try to keep the ST11 ready and waiting.  Around X-mas I start removing bodywork to keep batteries charged.  But if the weather is there, I try to get some miles in.

The KTM will sit in suspended animation until April.

I'd like to get out a couple of times this month.  Gotta do maintenance first though.  The Duc needs new cam belts before I go much further.  It's also time to change all the fluids as well.  Since I managed to get in a ride on Jan 1 this year, I really want to get out on Dec 31; kind of a "I rode all year" thing.

Yep and ditto, only I'm slightly more optimistic. My battery is in the bike, hooked up to a tender out in the barn. It's more like skiing weather right now and not riding, but if the recent past is any indication of the near future. I could be back riding by Christmas. Bigsmile  Let's hope.

I haven't found any really good places to ride it locally, but I did get to ride some good dirt and ice today here in southern Illinios (where I am right now).

Went Grouse hunting today.  On my way back in my truck, I had it in 4x4 and wasn't going all that fast and just about took it off a cliffy drop off since there was so much ice on the road, I blew right by the stop sign.  I had to get off the brakes and tap on the gas a bit to get the front wheels to grip and pull me over so I could stay on the road. EEK!

We didn't get a whole lot of snow, but you wouldn't have been riding anywhere up here the last 2 days (unless you had steel studs in your tires like the KTM above)... Lol

EEK! WOW!!!!  I just guessed it was the UP, because I caught that UP trip on advbiker and thought that's where you were... Wink  That's later on I thought though...

I've camped very near the highest point in Arkansas and seen it snow overnight.  It's fairly rare.  It looks like the ice got the best of you for a bit.  That sucks - thankfully it's temporary! Bigsmile

I got hit by that storm on Wednesday night trying to get to Texas. I went to the hardware tore and bought a drill and some sheet metal screws and put studs in the tires which helped me get back on the road.

I rode in to work this morning.  EEK!
10 degrees.  Coldest I've ever been on a bike although it was only 4 miles.

Lol winterize a bike are you Nuts, winter here last 6 maybe 8 weeks at the most...usually less. Fill the tank past overflowing, put the tender on it, put it on stands if you have it and wait for a clear day. Winterize a bike:twofinger:

Matt, I just saw your reply from the last post I made! Thanks for taking the picture. It's also my desktop wallpaper. Great amount of detail with my digi cam.
Did you get my phone message the other day (Tuesday)?

No car.

As long as there's no sleet, and nothing sticking to the ground, I'll ride to work.  I gots Givis though, no milk crate.

I was chopping ice in the alley with a cold chisel in order to hack a path from the garage to the wheel tracks 10 feel away the other night.  Too many near falls the other day.

Upper 20s late tommorrow.  Near 40 on Saturday.  It just might hit 40 on Sunday.

The REAL problem is the condition of side streets here.  Waukesha is still a skating rink!  It got a little better when temps warmed up a bit on Tues/Weds, but not much.  Still huge patches of thick ice and frozen ice-chunkage. Mad2

Plus, I've had to listen to heavy equipment from 1am-4am for the last three nights as they've been trying to clean it up.  The sound of a front-end loader bucket slamming into the ground, followed by the beep, beep, beep as they back up.  I'm averaging 4 hours of sleep a night for these nights.  It's taking it's toll on me.

OH yeah! I got my cold weather riding stuff and as long as it doesn't snow I can ride. I do need to get my thermostat replaced, Rubee is running cold.

The "pro's" are saying high 30's lo 40's and then rain:). Might be nice afterwards, no more salt OR ice, I hope! The only good thing about The Newport Glacier in my alley is I've gotten to see 3 of my lazy neighbors slide into their garage.Lol

I was out on Thursday. Just a thought. Bring the clear visor in case your a little late. Sunset, tinted visor and ice patches, keeps you focused though.
