Q for FJR Riders - How big are the panniers?
«
on:

Hey all. I'm planning on renting an FJR for a few days and I'd like to know how big the panniers are, like the actual physical dimensions. I'm likely going to throw my stuff in a couple of duffel bags and drop them into the panniers, so I want to make sure I have the right sized duffels. The published specs on the bike only say they're 30 liters, but no dimensions. Does anyone have the dimensions of the bags, roughly? I figured it's easier to ask here than go to a dealer with a measuring tape.
Thanks in advance.

Didn't I answer this somewhere else?
in any case, each is large enough to hold a CC helmet and a little extra like gloves, etc.
Alternately I've fit a First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket with liner and pags, gloves, do rag and other things in one bag. A tire kit, pump, FG hypertex pants with liner and pads and some other things in the other one. Or, 2 or 3 days of off-bikie clothing in a single panier liner (pack judiciously).

Before I sold mine I could fit my size 46 regular one piece roadcrafter suite in and maybe a pair of summer gloves.

Thanks guys... sorry, didn't see you had answered in that other thread. My notification seems to have gotten turned off. I haven't gone to all those links yet, but I hope one of them gives some rough measurements of height/length/depth of the bags. Appreciate y'all getting back to me, twice.

Hummm, still no dimensions, in that thread or in the ads for those FJR liners either. Guess I'm going to have to take a tape measure to a dealer.

I'll pull one off the shelf this weekend and measure it up for you. The exterior shape is not the shape of the interior so that makes things interesting.
Hmmm, would it be more helpful if I placed a few tape measures/rulers on the liner bags and snapped a pic? I think that pic along with the thickness of the bag may give you what you are looking for. PM me your email address and I'll snap the pic and send it along.

Measured off my liners.
It's not a perfect square, more othagonal
14" wide x 12" high x 9" deep is the biggest cube you could get in a case plus a pair of heavy touring gloves in the remaining corners.

Where are you renting an FJR at? I'd love to take one out for a day trip on vacation. All I ever find are Hardley's to rent.

Awesome, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I need measurements to be able to tell the g/f what she's allowed to bring. Maybe I'll make one of those "it has to fit in here" frames like they have for carry-ons at the airport!
Oh, and I'm renting in Sydney, Australia. I know what you mean about the Harleys, that's about all you can get in the states, although some rental places have Buells too these days.
Thanks folks, really appreciate it!

Just one more thing to consider: mine were big enough for me to tear off while trying to squeeze through traffic one day. DOH!

A thong, a toothbrush, condoms, a teddy. That's all that will fit. Trust me. Show her this if she doesn't believe you.
