Anybody headed to Barber this weekend for the WERA races? I know it will be raining, but the say they will race rain or shine. I figure I will ride out there sometime in the AM and head home when it gets too soggy. It's only 1.5 hours each way.

Gosh I hate reading stuff like that. I still think I'm headed out there tomorrow. RIP

One thing though:
"Barber Motorsports officials today said the man who was struck by the cyclist was not a track employee as has been previously reported."<---snipped from article.

If you are not working there and not participating in the event, stay the F--- off the track! At the risk of sounding cold hearted here, that guy KILLED somebody today!

It sounds like the guy was a corner worker at the event, just not an employee of the track.   Not many other details have been released.

Ok, the corner worker I could see. The first article made it sound like he was a spectator that decided to run across the track to move the bird. Also, it said something about having to warn him in the past?

Really sad to read about the deaths.   Sad

I had taken my family to B'ham on Saturday for a church event and decided afterwards to drive out to the track to watch some racing.  Well, the rain came down in earnest around 2:30 or so, just as we were getting set to head across town to Barbers.  I drove out there anyway with hopes that the rain had let up at the track.  Sadly, that was not the case.  We sat there in the van for a bit watching bikes tip-toe around the museum corner (one guy fell while we were watching) and decided with three kids, one of 'em a 4 wk old, it wasn't worth fighting the weather over.
