The local Advanced Auto takes used motor oil. But where do you get rid of stuff like antifreeze and brake fluid?

The local Euro shop is hosting a track day next weekend and they require everyone to replace their coolant with water. I already have 1+ gallons of used antifreeze sitting around and don't want more until I figure out where to get rid of it.

Here in Toronto the city takes it.  I've been busy cleaning out our storage and have already made a few trips to the local transfer station.  They'll take anything: battery acid, antifreeze, half-filled paint cans, whatever.  I imagine that's easier than having dopes like me throwing it into the trash or dumping it down storm sewers.

You can pour antifreeze down the drain (not storm sewer).  It's toxic, but processes just fine.

Anyone know about brake fluid?

x2 on the landfill.  Usually one day a week or month a county/municipal landfill will have a household hazardous waste/electronic component disposal day free for folks within the county or service/tax area.

As the EPA says....the solution to pollution is dilution.

Antifreeze is biodegradable.  In a sufficient quantity of water, it breaks down and is harmless.

+2 on mixing brake fluid with oil, I mix all my oils, tranny, gear, diff (from the truck) as "oil".  My local oil change place takes coolant too, which was a huge bonus.  Pretty much, if they offer a coolant change service they must have a way to recycle it, worth asking.

I was ready to comment on where to dispose of old biker fluids.

Good thing I reread the subject.

Most of the tracks I have been to actually have drums to dump the stuff into.  IIRC, Summit Point's disposal area is by the compressor on Main and by the pumps on Shenandoah, VIR has a couple sheds with disposal areas.  For some reason I can't quite remember where BeaveRun's disposal area is, but I want to say it's near the garages.

I mix all my oils and hydraulic fluids... gear oil, ATF, brake fluid and yep, used motor oil.  I'll either dispose of that at the local autoparts store, or out to the local landfill, which is free for me anytime their open as a resident rate-payer.  They also take antifreeze, paint, pesticide, you name it.  Its farther to drive to though.

Pour the DOT 3/4 brake fluid in the sink and rinse it down.

DOT 5 goes with motor/gear/ATF/hydraulic oil to the recyclers (auto parts store/repair shop/anyone who collects it for recycling)

Do not pour your brake fluid down the drain for crying out loud.
