So far, the weather for Saturday looks nice.  The weather for the ride down on Friday looks hit and miss.

I'll be there rain or shine.  But, I looks like I'll need to make sure my clothes are in a water proof bag.  My dirt bagz are not waterproof.

I was thinking the same thing.  I picked up a dry bag at Jerry's Sporting Goods last night.  Looks worse down our way, but I plan on making it if at all possible.

My wife is (hopefully) picking up a 55 liter dry bag from Dicks Sporting Goods today for me. That'll hold the tent, sleeping pad and (maybe) my sleeping bag. I guess I'll have to pack the rest in my Dirt Bagz inside a couple layers of garbage bags. Rain sucks... Weather for Saturday looks really good though  Thumbsup

Those dry bags used by kayakers are great.  I have one for my camping gear which will bungee to the back of the bike.

I found a small water resistant (at least) bag to stuff my clothes in which I'll then stuff into the dirt bagz.  I don't mind the rain as long as I can be dry at the end of the day.   Bigok

But like you said, on the day the really counts, the weather looks good for Saturday.

The weather is looking 100% sucky for this afternoon. I may wait until this big storm blows through and take a direct route down. Maybe leave as late as 3pm and arrive closer to 7pm - 8pm. That should still give me a little daylight to set up the tent. I will be watching the weather radar closely. I can't imagine doing 160 miles in a thunderstorm on a DRZ being much fun (verging on dangerous)...

I was just getting ready to post a weather update myself.

This is some major wetness.  I still may leave around noon w/ my rain suit on and just take my time.

Check out this radar loop!

Guys I am going to bail. Just landed from LA and I am not up for an 8 hour ride in heavy rain and fog after taking an over night red eye flight across the country. I'll try again next time.

Understandable. FWIW, there is a dual-sport gathering in central PA over on ADVrider scheduled for early October. It's near Bald Eagle State Park (State College/Penn State area). I think I'm going to try to make it. It would be a LOT closer for you than WV. Here is the thread:

Saturday breakfast will be at the Gateway Restaurant. It's located on route 33 at the intersection with Briery Gap Rd (the main road up to Spruce Knob). The restaurant is 1 mile west (toward Seneca Rocks) of the 33/28 intersection aka Judy Gap. Can't miss it. R Doug says to be there around 9:30am.

buff... marc, we'll catch you guys next time around.

Garry, great find on the restaurant!  See you this evening sometime.  Looking at the radar loop, this mess could be through by early afternoon.  The good news is, no dust tomorrow!   Lol

PS... new tire on the bike and it's ready to go.

BTW, I just picked up a pair of nice kayak gloves to use as my summer rain gloves. JetPilot turned me on to this tip at last years National. No moto armor, but they are comfy and supposedly warm. Here's a link:

Rain is pretty much east of my route now (12:45). I will be leaving work at 1pm and hopefully on the road at 2pm. Rain should be well east of my route by then. Estimated arrival in Seneca is 6pm-ish (maybe 6:30). I will be taking a fairly direct route (160 miles) on well-known back roads, so hopefully no surprises. I think cell coverage is very iffy at Seneca, but I'll try to call from CVR when I stop there for gas.

Let's do this ride!

Maybe we can just get together sometime for a day ride. It seem like Doug is right in the middle of a good meeting spot. Until then Keep the rubber side down.

Doug picked up another bike last night. 03 KLX 400 took it out today The old KLR 650 wont hold a candle to this bike 1st through 5th on the rear tire. I now need to go through the process to get it street legal.

The KLX is basically a DRZ400 in Kawi green isn't it? The DRZ forum over at ThumperTalk.com is THE place for info on the DRZ/KLX...
