Damn. I have to get my ass in gear. Gotta check/adjust the valves on the DRZ, install an FCR39 carb, install a new front brake line, swap out front and rear brake fluid, put a new rear tire on and install new chain and sprockets. Been a couple decades since doing a valve adjust on a bike, so I'm a tad worried about that with pulling camshafts and stuff. Someone who knows what they are doing could all that in a short weekend day, but that's not me...

Valves, chain, sprockets and tire on a Saturday are no problem. Are they shim or lock nut?  If shim, if you do not have a shim kit I would wait. As for the carb, brake lines and fluids, I would wait, if the banjos leak or the jetting is a pita as fcr carbs can be, it could end your chance to ride. Too risky if you ask me, unless you start this weekend and start with the carb and brakes.

I had a new base gasket installed on the DR over the winter so they had to adjust the valves when putting it back together.

I'm going to Wexford on Saturday to test ride a 990 Adventure and 1200 GS.  On paper, I have my heart set on the KTM.  It will be interesting what bike I show up on for our ride weekend.   Bigsmile

I hadn't decided that yet, but if your planning on trailering, I wouldn't mind trying to work something out.
Any idea what time you are heading out?

I was planning on leaving the house about 12:30 or 1 but I can take the whole day off and leave when ever. I live about 100 yards above the Engles Chapel Church right before the new concrete bridge going into gassaway. We can take the trailer but I warn you my ranger is a slow poke. 4 cyl 5 speed gutless as can be but gets good milage.

Buff36, I will have to confirm about the entire day on Friday, but should be able to do that.  If that is the case would you rather ride up?   If not, we could take my truck.

Oh man that sucks. Let's hope the cops find it soon and in decent shape. I've had two bikes stolen (early 80s). The MX bike was never found, but the kid confessed under pressure from the cops and I got paid for it by his Dad. The street bike was found by a friend of a friend in a bad section of the city. He "re-acquired" it for me. Ignition and locked gas cap were Fubar'd, but the rest was in almost perfect condition. I got very lucky.

Good Luck! Hopefully you had it insured for theft.

A bike stolen in your neck of the woods?  People should know they face getting shot trying to take another person's property in your area.  I loathe thieves!

I'm hoping for the best outcome for you.

Guys I MAY have to bail on this.  Need an opinion or two.  I have to fly to So Cal on Wednesday evening for a meeting in Newport Beach and then a noon flight up to SFO for a 3 PM meeting and then the red eye home, landing back in Newark at about 7 AM.  This puts me home by 9:30 AM.

If I can pack up before I go I can get home, SSS and hit the road by noon.  But it is an 8 to 10 hour ride on the KLX to the camping spot.  Not sure it is realistic to think I could get there, even if I stopped along the way at a hotel and caught you in the AM.

Kinda blows since I just dropped $150 on the Wolfman bags (which are SWEET), $75 on a one man tent and $50 on a single burner backpacking stove, all for this trip (and hopefully future camping trips.

New rear tire, chain and sprockets installed. Halfway through the FCR39 install (ready to bolt it on). Will give it a test ride to make sure all is well and then decide whether to take a peek at the valves or not. Bike was running funky/rough last time out and I suspect tight valves. Shop has shim kits, so shims shouldn't be an issue.

Marc, it could make for a long day.  Hotels would be an issue because the closest would be Petersburg, WV.  But, that's only 20 miles out.  So, you might as well go to the campground on Friday.  The second closets hotel would most likely be in Romney WV.  But, that may be too far of a ride in the morning to meet us by 9AM.

I'd like to see you make it.

There is a motel/cabins right there at Seneca Rocks. Look for Yokum's Motel on the web.
