  Can anyone tell me if the rear shock from any other makes/models will fit and work on my '93 Yamaha FJ1200?

I'd suggest searching the FJ Yahoo archive: http://fjyahoo.gfm.net:443/list.php?action=last.

I put a Traxxion (penske) on mine for about $500.  Not cheap, but it certainly changes the bike for the better.  Ride adjustable, and can be setup for rider weight.
