For all the BMW GS owners here. I have the chance to buy an 07 GS1200 with 2,000 miles on it, Jessie Safari bags, abs, onboard computer heated grips etc. The bike looks great and at $13,500 it is pricey but in line with what I have seen on Craigslist and elsewhere.

Any pros or cons of the 07 vs the 08/09 model?

I have been reading up on the changes to the 08/09 and I really think they are tweaks more than improvments, I really think I would like the 07 steering head angle over the change made to the 08/09 model years.

I just wanted to hear form the real world riders what they think of the 07 and 08/09 models.

I have an '07 and the only difference in the 08s that I wish I could get is the final drive drain plug being in the correct place. Aside from that, I prefer the look of the 05-07 models. I do not like the metallic boomerang on the front of the tank.

I cannot really speak on the 08-09 as all I have done is sit on them.  But I've had my 07 for a little less than two years and 20K miles.  No issues other than the EWS - which was recalled after I had my problem, and another little issue.

I would not change it for the world, I love my GS.

I've taken it all over the mountains on paved and unpaved roads.  Best bike I've owned in 20+ years.

When the 08 model came out I got an official BMW postcard from my local dealer detailing the changes.  The thing that I noticed was they mentioned a revised FD.  Now, of course, I can no longer find any mention of that.
They're all great, but I'd get an 08 or 09 model money permitting just for that.

Amen Brother.  The boomerang looks after-market, bling-bling & cheap. The '08 also has a shorter beak which I also do not like.  I've got an '05.

All good info, looks like I will be taking a ride over there tomorrow to really eyball the bike. I know I won't get the looks that the Ducati gets but I'll get more vesatility. Should I get the GS it will become my daily ride for work and what not.

Buy it.  The new '08 GS also changed the gas cap mount so you can't use the SW Mo-Tech quick release tankbag mounts.

The '08 apparrantly has another 5 horsepower.   Lol  It's not needed.

Buy the '07 and enjoy the Jesse bags.

I haven't heard that the guts are different, though they might be. The enclosure definitely is - the final drive drain plug is on the bottom, not the back. Why BMW put it in the wrong place to begin with is beyond me. (It's in the right place on oilheads!)

Well between work, weather and the flu bug I missed out on the 07. I figure it wasn't meant to be but that just means at this time. Maybe in a few months another good deal will come about.

I am pretty sold on getting a GS and that means the HYM will have to go. I have a two bike rule.....helps keep cost down and the wife happy.

In general would always go for the new model if possible.
