I put it in the road so you could remove it.

I rescued the egg from whence it came from predatory birds, so that there would be a turtle for you to put in the road.

I was in my cage and allowed a H-D with incredibly wide bars, lane-split past me.

I took an experienced rider class at the local community college Sunday. I learned to turn, stop, and what clutch friction is....huh I am glad it was not hot out or it would have really sucked.

I bought the 6 pack that got the male turtle (Bob) drunk enough to knock up the female turtle (whatshername) that eventually led to that egg.
Little known fact, but male turtles find the females fugly, so beer goggles are the only way that species can reproduce.

I stopped last week (in a cage) and gave a guy who had just been released from the hospital (kidney stone) a ride home. Somewhere in the ambulance ride to the hospital he had lost his shoes and shirt. He had just moved here from out of state so didn't know how to get to his address and was just kind of wandering down the road shoeless, shirtless, and pale as death.
Does that count?
Oh crap, I just reread the title of this thread...I wasn't on the bike. Sorry.

I did a very similar thing a few years ago. While riding with a ( former ) friend on our bikes, we came up on a large turtle in the road. If memory serves, it was about as big in dia. as a standard frisbee. We stopped, I got off my bike and grabbed him. Turns out this slimy slow-poke had an attitude and tried to take a mouth size bite out of my hand. I then realized it was a snapper. I put him right next to the creek which was only 5 feet or so from the road. I didn't know until I go back home that that ungrateful son-of-a-bitch wasn't just ugly with a bad dissposition, he smelled terrible! YUCK! :crazy:My wife couldn't understand why I was washing my hands with both of my leather riding gloves still on. Next time I'll just go around.

I waved back to a kid in the back of a stationwagon at a stop light. And then I lifted the front wheel 6-12 inches when the light turned green.

My wife and I are always doing that. I hate seeing roadkill.
Yesterday, however, it was less of a good deed and more of a make-me-feel-better asshat deed. Kid in a minivan on his cell phone nearly ran me over coming into my lane w/o warning (or reason!). So I avoided and then got next to him and when I got the "gee, sorry, but can't you see I'm on my cell phone" (no, really, he pointed at his cell phone like "c'mon, I'm on the phone here"... So I stayed just in front of him and geared down a few gears until the Duc was full boil at 8500 rpms with the termi cans singing to the phone-yapping little bastard. He hung up and slowed down with a wave. I felt better, though it was stupid(ly fun).

I moved a snapping turtle off of US 20 in north central Nebraska last year while riding the Guzzi cross country.
The karma continues to flow ever so slowly being it was a turtle and all...

I stopped to pick up a turtle, and I held it up for my friend to take a picture of me, so I could make a big deal about it on the internet. Then I found some bastard beat me to it!

Coming home from work a few days ago I rounded a 120degeree corner and found a young fawn walking in circles in the road - back and forth across the small road in front of and around the traffic. On the side I saw mommy dead and the little bambi went head down to nuzzle her mouth.
I am no big fan of deer, but that was truly heartbreaking. The truck behind me was county truck with yellow lights, and I saw him looking also and radio someone. I flashed my lights at the on coming traffic so they would not smash the little feller.

Honestly, I saw a turle crossing a nearby street just yesterday also. I turned the corner and was thinking "what the hell is that on the road?" I considered for a few seconds pulling over to get the turtle off the road, but I didn't. Now I feel so bad. I saw a little kitten last tuesday in the middle of a road. I honked the horn as I passed it, and it scurried off the road into the brush. Maybe that one lived.
And I did ride to work yesterday on the o-fish-ul ride to work day, even though there were some big rainstorms in the forecast. Of course, it didn't rain all day.

The neighborhood kids are ALWAYS giving me the "wheelie" sign. I act all cool like the responsible motorcycle rider and such, but the fact is I can't wheelie. I hope they never find out. As it is, I'm the cool neighbor... if they only knew, I'd be the dork with a bike.

We need to spend some time together then. I can see maybe not on the Sprint but that tard is just begging for it. Maybe I'll do an unofficial, unsanctioned, illegal, dangerous and all around irresponsible class one Saturday.
I'm sure nobody would attend.

Stopped for fuel on the Superduke and found two ladies on their way to a church mission trip with a flat. Both fairly advanced in years and helpless (clueless) as to how to change a tire. I changed it for them, they offered me some $ but I said no thank you that someday I'll need help and someone will stop for me.

the fact is I can't wheelie.
I learned how way back when on a KZ650(SR). Not sure if it was before or after I put the GPZ750 engine in it...
I put a cafe/bikini fairing (from JC Whitney) on it. But the windshiled didn't mount to the fairing quite right, so I sent it back. Shortly after taking the fairing off, I was behind a senior citizen at a controlled intersection. When he finally got out of my way, I didn't have much time to make it so I gassed it good as I rolled past him. The front end just came up.
After my surprise/shock wore off, I said 'so that's how that works'.
I got pretty good at wheelieing that bike.

i gave some advice to a family that their Trailblazer broke down in Keystone. the PS pump went WAYYY south and they were in the process of trying to put the serp belt back on. they were from Aberdeen, SD attending an MX event. well, i prevented them from making a big mistake and having the pulley fly off and tear up the engine bay. i was riding my bike and just happened to pull in to get some gas. i had been on fumes for a few miles. no biggie.

that would be me also since i've never done a true wheelie....and i don't think 1 inch off the ground is a wheelie. since the only person that knew it was happening was me. Wife didn't feel anything different and the guy next to me, couldn't see it. plus, i have no desire to really do one. i've got the Wheelie sign numerous times, but usually at the most retarded times...like right in the middle of traffic.

We need to spend some time together then. I can see maybe not on the Sprint but that tard is just begging for it. Maybe I'll do an unofficial, unsanctioned, illegal, dangerous and all around irresponsible class one Saturday.
I'm sure nobody would attend.
please send me the class schedule. I need help too.

Funny, I pulled this mad little bastard off the road today on the way to work. This guy tried to eat me, I was going to take him on the bike to the pond just down the road, but after he went for me I decided the ditch was the safest place for him and me..

I bought the 6 pack that got the male turtle (Bob) drunk enough to knock up the female turtle (whatshername) that eventually led to that egg.
Little known fact, but male turtles find the females fugly, so beer goggles are the only way that species can reproduce.
I grew the barley and hops, that brewed the beer, that was delivered to the store, that was purchased by atadaskew, that was given to bob, that got him drunk, who then knocked up whatshername, that made the egg, that was protected from predatory birds, that hatched and gave you something to feel good about and start a post on turtles

There. Does that qualify as a wheelie nazi post?
Yeah, but he changed an old lady's tire and moved a turtle out of the road later, so he's actually ahead one.

I gave the "start small" speech to a young man (19ish) who was telling me he was going to buy a ZX14 this summer - for his first "manual transmission" motorcycle... yes, really... So, basically he's been riding a 50cc scooter around town and now thinks he's ready for the fastest motorcycle on the planet...
He gave me every excuse in the book - "I'm 6'6, I need a big bike", "I like power", etc... I explained that my much saner first "manual transmission" motorcycle will beat any production car on the road in a 1/4 mile race, hit 120 MPH even with my fat ass riding it, and has more power than any sane person needs. What it won't do is loop when you hit a small oil patch, launch you from 30 - 120 in 2 seconds when you accidentally hit the power band in 3rd gear, and it won't cost you $500 a month to insure at 19.
I also gave him the ATGATT speech. I was very nice about all of it, but he probably didn't hear a word I said...

I tried to scare the $hit out of a below avg. intelligence friend of mine when he said he wanted a busa for his first bike since riding a 125cc dirtbike. Gave him all the logic in the world why it was a dumb idea and why to ride attgatt. What'd he do? well, stepped down from the busa and onto a R1. He rides it with a brain bucket, shorts and t-shirt on a regular basis claiming "it's too hot to ride with a jacket". Darwin might eventually be right with him.

why do we bother? I know why. Because I listened and went smaller than what I was intending on for my first bike in a decade plus - I was debating between an FZ-1 and Bandit 1250 until some nice folks on another site talked me out of it. Now I'm trying to be the nice guy and talk other people out of doing stupid things.

Last weekend, I pulled two turtles off the road. The first was this timid box turtle with a shell over 12" long. The second was a nasty little snapping turtle. Good thing I'm ATGATT!
I tried to get him off the road, but he kept trying to take swipes and bites at me. I nudged him a little bit, but gave up and left.

Last weekend on my ride to Phoenix from San Diego I stopped and changed a tire for a middle aged mexican woman. Is it still a good deed because the reason I stopped was her two hot teenage daughters. They kept my mind occupied all the way to Yuma.

Meanwhile, over on the turtle forums, we see a different view of this story:

This evening a car in front of me hit a Jack Russel and kept on going. I carefully lifted the dog into my van and called the vet, met him at the office. $400 later I left without the dog. Turns out the 3rd shift kennel person recognized the dog. A few minutes ago the owners knocked on my door and returned the $400. The dog's owners just moved in to a new house with a big fenced back yard for the dog, and the dog found a way through the fence.
Sheesh. I thought I didn't like animals.

My sister had one. 36 inches of weldwire fencing rolled flat on the ground with the grass allowed to grow up through it kept the little dog-of-Satan penned.

Riding my way home from a moto-camp overnighter yesterday. Was stopped at some mom n pop store eating a hogie. In pulls a pickup w/a dirtbike in the back. It was flopping all over the place because the tie down straps were not cinched up.
The driver opens his door and swings his legs out. Grabs a strap by the bedrail of his truck and hauls out his wheelchair. Proceeds to fold out and hop in his chair. Well, he fiddles with the cinch strap for a bit but trying to fix the situation from a sitting position.....well next time your near a pickup try sitting in a chair and doing anything with it.
I walked over and he asked if I could help. I did. I asked if it was his bike. He said yep, he just got it. He's going home to rig up hand controls. I gave him a big hell yeah and have a great day.

$400 later I left without the dog. Sheesh. I thought I didn't like animals.
Years ago I had a nice male desert tortise. Someone gave me a female tort, and they got along very well. One year the female died during hibernation. Managed to get her remains out of the hole, and took the male to a vet for a checked before the next hiber.
Vet told me the tort had VD (no, like D. Barry says, I am not making this up), so he gave him a shot of some kind of antibiotic. Told me to bring him back in a week for another shot. Tort managed to bulldoze a cinder block I had put over his hole and went underground--this was in Nov. in Arizona.
Hole went down pretty deep, and I couldn't see him. Vet said he'd probably die during hiber. w/o the other shot. Tried digging down, but gave up when I was ~4' deep and the hole turned horizontal.
Vet said to push a piece of rubber hose thru the hole, and listen at the end of it. Said tort would hiss at it when it reached him. Fed in ~10' of hose and didn't hear/feel anything. Now what?
Rented a big freakin' backhoe ($200 please, no discount for tort rescues) and had my good-diggin' buddy start the digging operation. Kept checking with the rubber hose, and after ~20' I heard him hissing. Last bucket swipe was ~1" in front of his nose. Used backhoe to fill in hole, and tort stayed inside house that winter.
Best news was that my bud used the backhoe at his house, so we split the cost.
Oh, we both ride but he has a Hardley. One time I convinced him to sell his Sportster, hoping he'd buy a decent ride. He turned around and bought a full size hog, but it usually just sits in his carport.

Well, I think I did a good motorcycle-related deed again the other day.
I was in downtown Middlebury Vermont walking over to have a picnic with my wife and young daughter on the town green when I saw four people gearing up next to a pair of BMW R1200GS bikes. Since I had to walk right past them anyawy, I thought I would stop to chat for a moment. They were a couple of couples, likely in their 50s, one bike had Pennsylvania tags the other had Florida tags (I think -- they may have both been PA). I admired their bikes, said I had just ridden my Beemer up from Virginia a few days ago, and asked where they were going.
Turned out they had only a passing knowledge of the local roads and had mapped out a perfectly nice little ride across the Green Mountains along perfectly nice roads. What they didn't know, however, is they were only ten miles south of one of the best motorcycle roads in all of Vermont -- route 17.
After inquiring if technical twisties appealed to them (an emphatic yes), I suggested a small change to their itinerary -- head north for a bit instead of south, pick up 17 across the mountains, and then pick up 100 south, which would put them back onto their originally planned route. Last I saw them, they were motoring north.
Hope they enjoyed the route!
A sampling of where I sent them:
