Well, I think I did a good motorcycle-related deed again the other day.
I was in downtown Middlebury Vermont walking over to have a picnic with my wife and young daughter on the town green when I saw four people gearing up next to a pair of BMW R1200GS bikes. Since I had to walk right past them anyawy, I thought I would stop to chat for a moment. They were a couple of couples, likely in their 50s, one bike had Pennsylvania tags the other had Florida tags (I think -- they may have both been PA). I admired their bikes, said I had just ridden my Beemer up from Virginia a few days ago, and asked where they were going.
Turned out they had only a passing knowledge of the local roads and had mapped out a perfectly nice little ride across the Green Mountains along perfectly nice roads. What they didn't know, however, is they were only ten miles south of one of the best motorcycle roads in all of Vermont -- route 17.
After inquiring if technical twisties appealed to them (an emphatic yes), I suggested a small change to their itinerary -- head north for a bit instead of south, pick up 17 across the mountains, and then pick up 100 south, which would put them back onto their originally planned route. Last I saw them, they were motoring north.
Hope they enjoyed the route!
