I am aware of the two witness rule, and already have another person lined up. You did raise a question though...Do I need a witness at the turn around point? I'm thinking a gas receipt will do.

No, not at the turnaround point, just at the very end. The receipt will do when you head back as long as it's time/dated/ and has the address. (Like all other receipts)
This isn't your first IBA ride is it? Not questioning or insulting, but there is a requirement that you have "one in the books" before you qualify for a BB
Gold.
I learned that one the hard way.

I've certified a few. Done a bunch that never had paperwork sent in for. Rode a few Rallies. This will be the first BBG I certify, but not the first time covering this type of ground. My only concern is staying hydrated for this ride. It is going to be damn near 100deg for at least the first 12-14 hours. I wish I could start at night, but I have to work all day Saturday so I will need the rest, and I have to return to work on Tuesday. Starting Sunday morning makes the most sense, I will be well rested, and have enough time afterwards to recoop before work Tuesday. Plus it gives me Monday afternoon to pick up the pieces in case something goes wrong.
I have a cooling vest from Ridecool (great peeps) and a huge camelback bladder I will be keeping in the tankbag. I'm sure things will work out. Besides I like riding at night, and it surely will be welcome after riding all day in the heat.

Cool, sounds like you're well prepared and know what to expect. It's probably better that you start in the heat when you're fresh rather than at the end when you're tired. I dislike riding it that kind of heat, dehydration likes to creep up on ya. Hopefully you can get a bag of ice in the camelbak to keep it nice and cold though out the ride.
Good luck to you, ride safe.

OK, here is the plan. Dallas GA to Dallas TX and back starting Sunday (6.28) at 8:00am. I am starting from a gas station at the corner of Dallas Nebo rd and Hwy 61, that should also serve as my finish point.
For anybody interested, I will have the Spot tracker on for the duration of the trip. Boy its going to be a HOT day for a ride!

Well hell, I've done I-75 from the Macinaw bridge in Michigan to Miami. May as well knock out a chunk of I-20 too.

Well it looks like you've made the turn and are about 60 miles on the way back. Time should be good even if you lose a little speed riding at night. At least the rain that's in the GA area should clear out by morning...
Looking forward to the report after you've had a nap and polished off at least 64 ounces of water.

I MADE IT! Ride report in a day or two. Damn what a ride. 1533 GPS miles (1590 ODO). Had 20 minutes to spare, averaged around 65 mph. Saw 108 degress indicated for about 2 hours, man it was hot! Even ran out of gas on the way to the finish line
I guess 62 miles into an FJRs reserve is the max. Good to know

LOL yeah I don't think so, I've seen a 1000 mile day on the Daytona and don't care to ride that bike any further than that. BBG was tough enough on a FJR, don't think I could have made it on the other bike
