Well, I done gone and done it.  I couldn't resist.
After 16 days, 11 states and just over 5,000 miles on the VStrom, my wife and I got to talking about a new bike.  When we were in Minneapolis on the way home, we stopped at Leo's South and sat on a BMW R1200RT.  Loved it, but the price was way too high for my blood.  But, we kept talking about that bike.  Basket, who was with us at the time, said that his SO's neighbour had a newer RT that was forever sitting in the driveway under a cover and never ridden.
Enter Fate:
Basket gets back and sees the neighbour (a rare occurrance) at the same time notices that the house has been sold.  Asks the neighbour if he still has the Beemer.  He does.  Would he consider selling.....pause...he would.  Long story short, I connect with the guy and we work out a DEAL.
It's a 2007 BMW R1200RT.  It has 600 miles on it  EEK!  And a year left on the warranty  EEK!  It has every option available for the RT except for the topcase.  It is in immaculate condition!!
So, the bike gets a new battery (because it had just plumb sat too long), a safety check and oil change.  I get the bike.
I cannot believe this bike.  It is smooth, has great weather protection and is comfortable.  The Strom is a comfy bike, don't get me wrong.  But this is definitely a step up.
So, now my nicely farkled and well maintained DL1000 is for sale!!  http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,41043.0.html
Now, bask in it's glory!!

Now THAT'S the way to get a bike!!

It kills me to see people drop the coin on toys like this and have them sit and then take a huge hit on it.  I know I don't know the whole story, for all I know he could have had health probs.  I do know people who HAD to have the bike only to let it sit for no real reason but they continue to make payments on them...   Rolleyes

But SCORE for the guy on the receiving end of the deal!   Twofinger

Gorgeous bike - I'm sure the bike is excited to have an owner that will put it to good use.   Bigok

Good things come to those who wait. I hope you don't feel too guilty buying a used bike instead of stimulating the economy by giving a dealer your moolah.  Lol  You gave that old bike a new home so no one had to drag it out back and shoot it. Congrats!

Well said. Congrat's on the beautiful Blue BMW. Wish I still had my 85 R100CS. One thing to note, it's really not getting broken in engine wise until around 20k miles, and then just gets sweeter with time based on my experience. May you enjoy many safe and happy miles.

Nicely done!  Many happy miles to you and your pillion.

The RT would be high on my list if I had a more regular passenger.   Thumbsup
