I am thinking about getting myself a little early birthday present and going to the Tony's track day at NHIS on August 3. I really wish i had someone to go along with my. I am sure that my wife would go but I am guessing that she will get pretty bored. Are any of you other 6ers going to this event that I could tag along with?
This will be my very first track day. So I would not mind hanging with someone with some sperience.

Thanks, but my happy budget has been amended by a recent layoff. I had to back out of a Sportbiketracktime track day at NJMP. Sad

Awwww. You're not coming on August 3rd?? I'm one of Tony's instructors. It would have been nice to meet you. Maybe next time.

Motomarket runs a good program. You'll have fun.

Ken,
I was really hoping to make the Aug 3 date. But.....

I expect that this will be habit forming. Smile
So you are liable to see me at one of your events too.

I'm not going to stick out like a sore thumb on the FJR am I? Smile

Yep. Track days are addictive. If we could afford to give you the first one free, we would. Then you would come back for more, and more, and more... Smile

The FJR fits into Tony's days just fine. This past week we had 3 or 4 big BMW tourers, a Concours, a BMW GS, a ST1300 and a couple of 250 Ninjas. So, no sweat there.

Also, consider riding with us in NJ. I love riding NH, but the Thunderbolt course is EXCELLENT FUN.

Nice to see your video, Dave! You were moving on that ST. Next time we can spend some more time riding together. We can get you feeling even better on that big bike with those changes in your body position that we talked about. I'm glad you had a good time.

Nice Show! Thanks for the Vid. Thumbsup

I have a bonner just watching that. Lol

I stopped by an old friends place tonight and it turns out that he just got done restoring is 1986 GSXR 750. It is fabulous looking. I put the hard sell on him to get him to go with me. I think I might have planted the seed.  Razz
He is a fantastic rider with a beautiful bike.

I have my new sneakers coming. A little prep work and some new gloves and I'm there.

Ed, Did you trailer the ST? If so where did you hook the beast?

I've read your book "Riding in the Zone: Advanced Techniques for Skillful Motorcycling" http://www.whitehorsepress.com/product_info.php?products_id=5825 multiple times. I've also read:

"Sport Riding Techniques: How to Develop real world Skills for Speed, Safety and Confidence on the Street and Track" by Nick Ienatsch

"Total Control" , by Lee Parks

"Smooth Riding - The Pridmore Way," by Reg Pridmore

"Twist of the Wrist" by Keith Code

"Twist of the Wrist 2" by Keith Code

The books are great, but there is nothing like direct supervision and critique. I hope to ride with you some more and to do more track days.

The bringing the bike back in pieces is not on the agenda here either. EEK!

I am getting pretty anxious for this now. Just getting my shit together for it is proving to be fun too. Bigsmile

Hey Ed I met you in the garage during that track day. I was the guy on the naked bandit, although there were two, I was the one nearest you haha.  Glad you had fun out there! Nothing like ripping around the track, and you definitely get a clear picture of "it's the rider, not the bike"

I actually made a video from the day before (no rain  Razz )

Coming down to NJ in sept??

NJ is smooth as silk and more open with faster corners. Less elevation changes also.

I actually think non-race bikes would like the NJ track even more.  The NH track is a bit of a workout on the bigger bikes.  The NJ track is much more flowing so you can carry more speed in and through the corners.

We have 4 more trackdays in NJ this year... and we're offering package deals.   Bigsmile

Check out our homepage for the details.  And remember, board members that have never ridden with us before can email me for a $25 discount code.   Thumbsup

What do you guys use for taping your head and tail lights?

I messed around with unplugging my tail lights and the ABS light came on. Headscratch

I think I'll need to unplug at the lights

for tail lights i just take the bulbs out. (assuming they're not led) painters tape on headlights, and usually just take blinkers off. Pull fuse for headlights so the tapes not melting goo all over.

Blue painter's tape is ok as long as you put enough on so that your brake light doesn't show. Also, painters tape comes off in the rain. Some people put painters tape on and then duct tape over that.

Not sure about other org's, but we only worry about your brake light.

If your headlight is plastic, no need to tape it.

We have found that brake lights are distracting to the riders behind you.... otherwise, we don't require any lights to be taped.

Well. I went to the MotoMarket track day on the 24th. Bigsmile

I had a blast. Even on the big pig it was real fun. Wink
The weather was great if not a little warm.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the big girl danced. While it was no R6 it was still plenty fun.
I put a fresh set of PR2s on before we went and they did a pretty darn good job considering the weight they were dealing with.

I must say that the event was everything that I had hoped for. Paul and all the others involved did a great job and put on a great event.
Even being a virgin I felt welcome and at home.

The instructors did a great job of keeping us newbs under control and showing us the ropes.
I learned a lot of things about me and my bike doing this. I can't recommend this enough to others. Even if you only do it once you will learns so much.
It is the best money you can spend on your scooter and yourself.

I wish I had some better pics but...
I must have had my head in my ass and didn't get the camera out until the last session. Rolleyes
Me and blue eyes calling it a day.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f166/Butlerpm/Caliingitaday.jpg

Thanks to whomever here put this idea into my head. I am hooked now.  Thumbsup

Thanks again to Motomarket and all the others involved.

Big Friggin Fun!!!

Late mid winter update.
The sickness has worsened.
Last year I picked up a Sv650 for track duty. I managed 4 trackdays:D
This year I plan on doubling that number.

Thanks Ken and others for getting me started.
I love it

A year later....
I did 10 track days in 2011. I even took my daughter along and got her hooked too. This season with the help of the Tony's Track Day staff I took my skills to a new level.
For 2012 I look forward to the new challenge of racing the LRRS and Control riding for Tony's. It's my turn to give back.

Come out and join the fun!
