On the 2610, the voice prompts say things like, "In 1.2 miles exit right" or "In 500 ft, turn left"

Do the new Garmin units have a different type of prompt? Specifically, do they say things like "In 1.2 miles exit right on Exit 10B" or "In 500 ft, turn left on Thornberry street"

TIA

You have the option, depending on the voice prompt you pick. Most of the voices have the standard prompts like the 2610, or with TTS (text-to-speech) it will read the exit number and street names back to you.

Keep in mind, though, that TTS means the unit will take a stab at naming a street, with less than 100% assurance you'll have a clue as to what's meant by the prompt.  IMHO, once on the road, 99% of the time "Turn right" or "Bear left" gets the job done.

Good point ... I use the Aussie chick for me GPS voice. I guess since she's from down under, some of our abbreviations are a good bit different. It took me by surprise the first couple of times, but I've come to expect her errors. Smile

Half the time I can't figure out what the hell the things saying. It just doesn't pronounce the street names very clearly. Even fairly simple pronunciations.

My 2720 tells me to turn onto XX St. or whatever it's called. The pronunciation is often hilarious.

Rather makes the point about the value (or lack thereof) of TTS, eh?   Razz

Works fine for me. The voice might not properly pronounce all the street names because I'm using an international voice, but I can understand it enough to know where to go. I personally like TTS ... although YMMV.
