After 44 years in the saddle I own the bike of my dreams... it's everything I think a motorcycle should be
and then some... the trouble is only 56 of us in North America really know anything about it...

Dream bike?

I'd love to own a Formula Xtreme spec R6. I'd also love a Duc 748RS. Pretty much any Bimota comes to mind.

One of mine is an RC30. I love the gear driven cams and I miss having a V-4. I had a 93 VFR for 5 years and 40K+ miles. It was great. I think the RC30 is the best looking of that line. There, now Larry can wax poetic about his RC-45.

My other dream bike is in the garage. It's a Tonti framed Guzzi that'll be a cafe bike. I hope to have more parts back this weekend.  Inlove

A Norton Manx

no wait...a Norton Commando. Yah, that's the ticket.

No! A Laverda 750 SFC triple! Tooling down the Pacific coast Highway, then Andrea Corrs pulls up next to me on her Ducati 750SS, blips the throttle and says, "Catch me if you can". And we ride. We pull up to a little lodge in Mendocino...Andrea looks at me with those puppy dawg eyes of hers and....*pop*

and then I wake up   Embarassment

No good poll options.  Only bikes that make up for a very small penis.

I have nothing to compensate for, it'd be either a F800ST, F650, or ninja 500.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn42/Yakima9/honda-nr-750-22.jpg

True... and the 1989 Honda NR750 spawned the 1994 Ducati 916...

Ducati 916 looks the way it does because it based on a 1989 HONDA
NR750!!! you see back in 1992 Massimo Tamburini felt so passionate
about Mitsuyoshi Hohama's NR750 upon which he promptly tore up his 916
design and started again...amazingly, the NR prototype was first
displayed in 1989! and remained largely untouched when production
commenced in 1992.Honda's stunning 1992 NR750... complete with
wedge-styling... fox-eye headlights... single-sided swingarm and
underseat exhausts... that Tamburini freely admits copying the styling
cues and produced the 1994 916 with wedge styling... fox eyed
headlights... single sided swingarm and underseat exhaust...

Please bear with my story:

I have been riding a 2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200S for the last 6 years and need a bike with hard bags. A few of my friends ride Harleys and I thought that would be change and have been looking at them, but the performance is not really good and the old baggers do not handle the corners very well, but the 2009s handle OK.  I was try to convince myself that that is the way to go.  After looking at bikes I found that Victory was coming out with an 8-ball Vison, and I though that is the bike.  So I made a list of every thing I wanted in a bike and listed the bikes I was looking at plus I put in a Kawasaki Concours 14.  I gave each bike 1 to 5 points in each category and them totaled them up.  I really thought I wanted a Harley but the type of bike I was really looking for was a sport touring bike.  That was last week Wednesday, Firday I had off and went to a swap meet, and that's is where I found a 2002 BMW K1200RS with less than 8,500 miles, with bags and a tall windshield, that BMW is now in my garage.  I put almost 200 mile on it Sunday morning.

These may be "Penis" compensation bike's... but at least she won't say: "Not tonight dear, I have a headache"...

At least you didn't limit your choices to the typical squid fare.  Bigok

That's because you'll likely never have the opportunity to ride such machines. Many of them are just as good/fast/intoxicating as those lame, biased, influenced-by-advertising-dollars say they are. Sometimes even better.

Once you do ride them, even if for a short while, your tune will change.

To each his own.

U Sir have taste.

I owned a '78 (in the early 90's), my friend (who had owned Beemers) wanted another one and as he left his casa to look at the '78 R100RS that some guy was selling, his wife stated "if U buy it don't come back", well we went & looked anyway, I loved it and bought it. But not before stating the obvious to him> dude U'll regret listening to that advice.  Well he eventually divorced that Irish lasse & is still bike less ho hum

The bike turned out to be a slight lemon, it ate copious amounts of oil - never did find out why.  Sadly, sold it

Still would love another - a '83 R100RS will be on my garage one day...

Or this Bike

I loved Aryton (saw him race)  & this bike is awesome

FYI - oldest daughters middle name is SENNA

Another fail of a thread.   Rolleyes

No good poll options.  Only bikes that make up for a very small penis.

I have nothing to compensate for, it'd be either a F800ST, F650, or ninja 500.

Meh, those are hardly dream bikes. Shit, I can pedal faster than that Ninja 500 or F650 can go. The point of dream bikes is that they are supposed to be something that you wouldn't be able to ordinarily obtain.

Many of us enjoy sport riding on bikes that are sport in nature. Therefore our dreams go along the lines of bikes like the Duc and not the F650. It's not that we are trying to compensate for anything at all but that we enjoy the rush that you get from a sport bike. The Ninja and F650 wouldn't be a challange for me to ride at all so what's the point?

I guess I'm supposed to have my next dream bike in mind, but I just can't decide.  Maybe Busa or ZX-14 but I've kinda been there and done that with the go fast thing now.

No fooling, I need a bike that'll take neglect and abuse in stride!  The r6 really doesn't ask for much more than tires and oil changes.  It's suprising, really, since the average kid who buys an r6 will bin it in <10k miles  Lol

The ducati is fast and sexy, but the r6 is all I "need" when I hit that twisty stuff.  Revving it to redline is plenty of guilty pleasure for a sunday morning; then again, I've never been spoiled with that v-twin bottom end, which is pretty addictive from what I've read...

I chose Busa because, well I've wanted one since I rode a co-workers' a year or so ago.  I wouldn't call it a 'Dream Bike' though.

I'm not sure there is an end-all-be-all for motorcycles.

My Ideal stable would be a new FJR, a Busa and a Dual-Sport'ed Versys.

I don't get the attraction to the Confederate bikes, but to each his own.
And what's with that rear sprocket? Looks like the chain is not the right size or sumpin'.

I really don't have a mega expensive bike that I lust after. I do like the newer Yamaha R6's, Husqvarna TE610, KTM Adventures....

Maybe I'll just wish for that Yamaha Tenere since it probably will never come to the US, with hard bags and a hot chick with it.

But this is the one I dream about:

55 of these left in the whole world.

JPS Norton Rotary!   Get yer Wankel on!  Lol

Srsly, nice bike, and the Norton racers were kicking some serious butt before everyone started complaining about the displacement calculation method.

Did you see the modern interpretation of the Norton rotary racer?

If I could keep my DL650, my dream bike would be a Victory Cross Country for going across the country and a Triumph Thruxton for around town. The DL650 for forest roads in Idaho and Montana and my vintage Beemer for old guys on old bike rides.

If I had to select just one new bike, I'd keep the three I ride now.

I assume the "r" addition to the 1098 is implied.  One of the great benefits to a bi-centric lifestyle is that aspiring to something Italian is a manageable goal.
