No, but I've sold one.  It went very smooth because I put in a lot of verbage to discourage idiots from contacting me looking for a scam or bike for half the price it's worth.

Bought 2 so far.  After talking to the sellers, wondering to myself about their low asking prices, both bikes had been put away for an extended time and had gummed up carbs.

Both were resurected for less than $100 including carb work.  Each was priced at about 50% of normal.

Got a great deal on a Bandit, rode it for 3 years, 30k miles, no problems, sold it for what I paid for it, and just bought an '06 FJR with 2500 miles and Y.E.S. through '11 for $7800, immaculate, all through Craigslist.

Found my almost as new 1990 PC800 on Craigslist several months ago. I had to drive a few hundred miles to get it but it was well worth the trip. This bike reminds me so much of how my original PC was when it was new. And I love to see the expressions of people's faces when I tell them that the bike is 20 years old! And I needed just One More Bike anyway. Besides, the wife was needed something new to give me chin music over!  Lol

No, but I sold one...
long story short, a guy answered the add from Russia! "I will pay your asking price if you hold it for 3 weeks"
Half the money came in western union to hold it and the balance in Ben Franklin's on delivery.
Peter flew in to DFW from Russia, met a friend and wife that spoke English well, in December and drove it to Miami FL!!! There's a real Iron Butt rider.
The airline lost his gear, it was raining and 40's, he smiled and hit the highway.
I got a email from him a few months back and he was back in Russia and had just traveled to France and back.

I did take the bike to work to do the deal with witnesses Lol

Got a smoking deal on a mint condition SV650S a couple of weeks ago. Great transaction and I couldn't be happier with the bike. If it makes a difference to your poll, it was a dealer ad, not a private party sale:

4 weeks ago.  Great bike.  Great Seller.  Great Deal.  I have done just under 200 EBay and Craigslist transactions with about 15 of them leaving a bad taste.  I think the horror stories are just another example of our fear mongering media.  Be smart and have fun.

I sold a bike in February (San Diego riding season).  Selling on Craigslist is like selling at the swap meet.  My immaculate '02 with 48 k Yamaha FZ1 got multiple offers of $2k sight unseen.  How people can expect to bargain down from $2,600 to $2k via email w/o ever seeing the bike...  Twofinger Anyway, sold it for $2,300 cash money.  The guy got a gem at a cool price.  Never dropped and I averaged 48 mpg and changed oil every 2k.

How people can expect to bargain down from $2,600 to $2k via email w/o ever seeing the bike...

Yeah, that's common.  Pretty much every single thing I've ever sold on Craigslist (including bikes) has generated comical email like that.  Given how quickly those emails arrive in my inbox after posting, I can't help but think that they're being sent by people constantly trolling CL all day -- in other words, they're not necessarily interested in the item you're selling as much as they are in getting an incredible deal on something (either to brag about, or possibly flip for a profit later).

Regarding the thread, haven't bought any bikes found on CL yet, but have sold a couple and it's pretty straightforward.  Buyer gets to inspect the item, and I get cash.  Generally prefer to do this sort of thing at a local friendly dealership just so there are some witnesses to the transaction.

Sold vtx1300c on craigslist. Guy came up from Florida to RI, paid for it, loaded it into a van he purchased in Mass at the same time and left for Florida again. He was even good about me sending the title to him after the bank got it to me which I was surprised about.

Sold one also. Had about a 5 to 1 ratio of the idiot emails vs. the serious buyer. Turned out being a good experience with a serious buyer. If you can weed out the people that are only trolling for a good deal it is not a bad way to sell.

Some of the emails you receive are funny. Like, "hey dude my friend gots that same bike for this price at such and such place so i will give you this price lets make a deal man"

I love how they do not ask a single question about the bike but only want to offer you money right up front and without even looking at it.  Rolleyes

Got an '89 250 for $500, needed a few parts but I had them sitting around and it was only marginally more expensive than buying a new frame.

Got a good deal on the 636 on craigslist as well.  It had cosmetic damage couple of odds and ends wrong but it was better maintained than the typical squid bike.

ya, i know that but still, i just have a general distaste for the red color in all aspects. even orange, the only red i can stand is crimson "ROLL TIDE" but other than that i just don't like to wear or ride it. it also doesn't help with the amount of gangs here, so if u stay away from red and blue you wont see any unnecessary conflicts with idiots.

Snagged my Hawk and my VFR thanks to Craigslist.  Got sweet deals on both.

The trick is to watch it EVERY DAY.  Eventually, the bike you want at the price you want (within reason) will appear.  Then you be the first one there with cash.   Smile

I had two guys hot on my heels when I bought my VFR, and I was there with cash two hours after it posted.  Smile

I responded to an ad on CL for someone looking for an ST bike.  It took a while but it ended up being a local guy who is going to school in Cali.  He wanted to fly home for a visit and ride back to Cali w/ his bud.  I was more than a little accommodating but in the end, he got a great bike (my very clean 03 Sprint ST) and I got a good deal.  Last I heard, he was loving it.

Face to face, cash and research.

i have a chance to buy a 1991 zx11/zzr1100 which has never been dropped and has sat for 5 years, it has 11000 miles on it and the guy is cleaning the carbs and getting it back in ridding condition before he is selling it to me. he says the reason it sat for so long is because him and his wife bought two Harleys 5 years ago and he also says that he was the 2nd owner and bought it in 1992. i asked him why he never sold it and he said because he didn't want to get rid of it, but his wife is now tired of it taking up shed space and is making him sell it. he wanted $3,000 for it but i was told him i didn't have that and sorry for wasting his time, at that point he asked how much i had i told him $1,500 then he heard my baby crying, asked me if i was a family man i told him yes and he said because of that he would sell it to me for $1,500 what do yall think about this situation? here is a pic;

i would post the pic in here but its huge

Are you sure?

Ok, you have been warned.  If I were you and bought the bike I'd send the guy the other $1,500 first chance I got.  No reason to accept sympathy because you couldn't figure out how to use a rubber.  I'm talking cancel your internet access eat ramen until he's paid kind of soon.  Not some throw $5 in the bank every week kind of soon.

wow that's a rude way to talk about children... and i have scrimped and saved the money i have on top of giving my little girls and wife everything i could, my internet is free and i have been eating ramen for the last 13 years while i have made sure my little brother "who i raised" my wife and my children eat good and healthy... i just think the out look you have displayed on someone who is down on there luck shows what kind of person you truly are. i have saved $1500 while supporting a 4 person family on NO INCOME. i have done manual labor and repaired computers day in and day out to provide for my family and the only reason im getting a bike is to give my wife and children a safe car to drive while i take a job at a factory 75 miles away from home... also i was going to offer the guy free computer work for life for being such a outstanding person "unlike yourself" maybe you will have life fuck you over one day and you will treat people in poverty a little better after wards...

You done bitching?  Good.  Because you are sounding like a whiny little prick.

Yes, it's obvious your kid was an accident.  You might have tried to make the best of a bad situation, but absolutely deserve no sympathy for it as your attitude shows.  You think you deserve something special.  You don't.  You deserve nothing.  Get a $500 ninja 250 like I did.  If you are poor the bike you are thinking about getting clearly shows you are not poor and have not a fucking clue about them.  You need a bike that takes cheap bias ply tires and has good gas mileage.  That bike is neither.  My bike can go 8k miles minimum on a $150 set of tires.  That bike will take tires that are $150 EACH and need then twice as often.  Are you going to come here and beg for free tires in a couple months because you are about to make yet another poor choice?

And just in case you aren't done bitching, let me tell you why you should listen to me.  I too have no income.  Why?  Some days I am too tired to get out of bed.  I have been to more doctors than most people will in their lifetime, and I'm only a couple years older than you.  Because I couldn't get a diagnosis, someone in my department has decided I am "lazy" and done everything possible to throw me out.  I have spent more time fighting his bullshit than anything else for the last 3 years.  Turns out I have a disease that most people use as an example of the failure on the american medical system.  None of the specialists that are worth a damn take my insurance.  My doctor is afraid she'd lose her job if she wrote me scripts for the meds I need, so I order them from hong kong and get the rest from the feed store.  I have to eat a gluten free diet (no wheat, barley, or rye) and still manage to keep my grocery spending at $15 to $20 a week on average.  People like your whiny little ass could get by without half the shit they think they need.  I am proof.  I have not taken a dollar of gov. assistance, which I am sure you can not say.  Rolleyes  Your lack of research on the cost of bike ownership is a great example of how you dug yourself into a shithole.  Act first, think later.

You don't need a zx11, you need a whack on the side of the head and a ninja 250 or 500.

Since your reading comprehension might not be the best, cliff notes: You don't know what the fuck you are doing, get a car for the lower cost of ownership, I've had it worse than you and managed to pull through so STFU on trying to get sympathy.  It's attitudes like yours from people better off than me that have made me have no sympathy.  Most people are poor because they are stupid.  No matter how much you give them, they'll still be poor.  No need to waste gov. money or sympathy on them.

i am not trying to get a fucking bit of sympathy and the cost to upkeep a bike will easily paid once i have it and use it to get back and forth to work, i too have been crippled for the past 7 years, after being ran over by a car, then stuck under it for 45 mins, collapsing my right lung and shattering my rib cage while leaving me partially paralyzed, i have looked for three months here for a 250 and no one in middle Tennessee will sell one under $2500, i have tried to hassle and haggle non stop, the zx11 is the first bike i have found in the past three months under 2000 none the less 1500. i didn't post this here for sympathy i posted to see if yall thought he was selling me a dead bike or something. and neither one of my beautiful children where mistakes, i am catholic and it is against my religion to take precautions against the miracle of life. i have been on my own since i was about 11, that includes living under bridges, and breaking the law to feed my little brother. while all this happened i still worked and finished high school with a 3.0 gpa. on top of that i went on to get 3 years of college "Computer Networking Technologies 4.0 gpa" under my belt before i took time off to raise my children and work from home. and if you call defending your self from some self righteous bitch who persecutes others because of here own self hatred then yes i am bitching... when i came here a few days ago i never would have thought this board condones the actions of people like you so you can sleep happy because i will leave and you can continue to persecute others in till there is no one left.

btw i have worked my hands to the bone since i was 10 to support myself and my little brother then later my family so you can sling as much bullshit as you can grasp but there is nothing that anyone can say or do to me that hasn't already been done. All that bullshit hasn't stopped me yet and it never will!

Having the kids on purpose is that much worse.  Rolleyes  Too many people on the gov. tit already without making more.  And you call me crazy.  Car should have done a better job of crushing you and taken out the reproductive organs.

Your getting defensive quick means you have nothing but bullshit and excuses to offer.  Seriously.  Get a car.  Or wait until winter.  It'll also give you time to get some gear, which of course you can't afford and I'm sure will come here begging for.

I bought my first 250 with 540 miles on it for $1,800 from a guy in Bristol.  They are not hard to find IN THE WINTER.  To expect a deal in summer is just stupid.

Jeezus, what's with the sh*t attitude, Lauren? You're incredibly abrasive and rude - it's amazing that people on this forum actually put up with it. Someone so obnoxious doesn't have much strength of character or self-esteem.

I just joined S-T.net, and you get to be the first and probably the only person on my ignore list. Buh-bye.  Twofinger (if there was a version of this icon that wasn't smiling, I would have used it instead).

So why not buy ANOTHER CAR?  Are you really stupid enough to think the cost of ownership on a zx11 is less than a car?  Why not have another spawn hauler in case the other breaks down?  Rolleyes

You are clearly lacking any logical thinking ability, but you have a lancer so I guess that explains a lot of it.   Rolleyes  If you really gave a damn about your family you'd get the second car for backup and lower cost of ownership.  But you don't, because your whining about being poor is complete bullshit.  You are one of those people the world would be better off without, looking for sympathy when you have money to waste on a ricer car.

BTW, the catholics that spawn like crazy are thankfully a very small minority of extremists.  You should really look a hell of a lot harder into something before you let it fuck up your life, since I obviously know more about your church than you do.  You should also learn to spell, might explain why you are having trouble finding a job.

That's right, I point out huge hole in your "logic" (and I don't like calling it that) and you can only laugh because you have no good answer to why you are acting so stupid and irresponsibly.

I suggest superior solutions, but you refuse to consider them because a ninja 500 isn't ghetto fabulous enough for you.  Rolleyes

i payed 11,000 for my lancer brand new my senior year of high school and just finished paying it off, and i would love to have a ninja 500 you dumb racist bitch. i first thought about buying a 09 ninja 250 but then started to try and find used bikes. so run your mouth somewhere else. and the reason im not buying another car is because I CANT GET A RELIABLE CAR FOR 1500... i am sorry im not white like you and just get everything handed to me. and i love it that your incest is in full fling, i bet your wearing your bed sheets and pillow case right now while you type. its people like you that give the rest of the hard working honest white people bad names. so log off your computer and go play checkers at the cracker barrel.

Lol I got my car for a grand and it's reliable.  But go on being a whiny little prick, it's amusing how much hate you have for people that suggest you think about the consequences of your actions.

Gotta love you assuming that I get everything handed to me.  Twofinger  Far from it.  But keep that idea going.  Keep your hate for everyone with lighter skin than you and see how much being racist helps you.

Seriously Lauren, I've never seen you react so harshly and so quickly. I didn't think he was asking for anything unusual, nothing more than "is this a good deal?" on the 1100.  Obviously he has his reasons for wanting a bike instead of a second car (I can think of quite a few myself). Both of you are making assumptions about the other. Both of you have had a rough life. Both of you should continue this spat outside of this thread, if at all.

I'm just sayin'.... Shrug
