Heli Bars on a Busa?
«
on:
February 17, 2007, 10:01:32 AM »
Does anybody out there have them on their Busa. I am really thinking about taking advantage of the awesome deals out there and build it up as a SPORT touring bike. I had a 99 when they first came out, but always felt the reach to the bars was just to far for my 5'10" frame, and at the time wasnt really into sport touring (more of a hooligan). Does anybody have them on their Busa and if so how do you like them? The reach to the bars on the ZX-14 is better, but there are some new Busa's out there for $8800, and a $1000 difference (I have seen left over 06 ZX-14's for $9800), buys alot of farkles.

Nice bike ken.
Helis are fine but a little expensive for what you get IMO, at east over the pond here in dear old Blighty
You can put up to 20mm spacers in as a very cheap mod which might do the trick for you without any hose length implications. Combine that with either Buell (light mods needed), Gixxer 750 or Oberon (bolt straight on) pegs to give you another inch and a quarter legroom and you may find your sorted for a few pennies in comparison.

When all was said and done it was approx. 200$ CND. pricey but considering how much I spent on tires (tyres
) , wine women and song, who am I to complain.

I have Helibars on mine as well and it makes a big difference for touring. I'm not a long term sportbike rider so I can't say how they detract from canyon carving. I know I'm interested in getting a pair of standard bars so I can swap mine and see if there's a difference. But I'm also getting new fork oil and replacing the springs with Progressive so it might be a moot point.

The fork oil and springs will be useful regardless of the bars (within reason
). Personally I don't think the difference wil be great enough to make a great impact in the twisties. If you have a set up that suits you stick with it IMO.

I have heli-bars AND a 19mm genmar riser on mine, ( plus the Buell peg mod) and would never go back to stock. Much better than stock for long saddle time, and well worth the money. The only mod required for both risers to work is rerouting the fast idle cable (5 min.) and unbolting the front brake line bracket from the forks for a little slack. With a Puig double bubble screen (no mod needed for fit of the bars) at full lock right it does turn on my flash to pass switch, no biggie. A Zero Gravity ST screen also fits without any mods, if you like lots of wind noise.

Didn't realise you could get away with both with min mods. Thxs
How much wider are the helis? A little extra leverage on 180 uphill Alpine switchbacks would be useful?

200 POUNDS!!! Lardthundin'geezus, That is pricey...
I like the "throttle rocker", no need to grip the throttle on long straights, yet it is transparent in the twistys.
If you look close my "throttle lock" or "cruise control" is a twisted bungee cord on the bar end. Not too pretty but it's my anti bling statement. I didn't notice the increased width, but I found myself sliding forward a hair more to weight the front, to compensate for the rearward shift in bodyweight. The fork spring up grade is well worth it, as well as 1/2" shorter dog bones giving a 1" lift in the rear. Those mods combined with a 180/55 rear lighten up the handling considerably.
cheers

I think it's just my newbieness at sportbike riding. I've only been on them since 2003 and really doing some riding in 2004 on. On more sweeping turns (25mph or higher) I can take them at a good clip and feel comfortable. On slower turns (10mph and less) I come into the corner and then seem to lose confidence. I basically stand it up and sometimes cross the double yellow. I'm thinking some track time or a track school would be helpful

I tour extensively on my Busa and I thought I was going to need risers or Helis but since I have 37" sleeves...it seems to work out just right. She's just a yr old and I'm still
Oh yeah, I have the HD Throttlemeister and love it for looong straightaways.

If I remember correctly, the heli's are 1/2" wider, 1/2" rear setback, and 1-5/8" rise at the bar ends. But its all in the angle that they have. Much better position. The heli's alone make a difference, but with the genmar its SOOOOOO much better than stock. Reaper risers are a cheap alternative to a Genmar, but don't have the look I was after. People don't even notice the Genmar or Heli's. I think I have just over $300 in Heli's, a Genmar, and Buell pegs.
