A couple of us from work are going on a 4 day trip down to Kentucky in September to tour the Bourbon distilleries.  We will be meeting up in Lancaster Ohio and the first night will be spent in Pikeville, KY.  I have a nice route to the Ohio river, crossing over to WV at Point Pleasant, then route 2 to I-64 for 3 exits then catch RT 152 just south of Huntington, at Doane WV we will stay on RT 35/41 which turns into RT 3 Then catch RT 119 to Pikeville.

So I guess my question is what shape is RT 152, RT35, RT 41 and RT3 in??

Thanks

That's one corner of WV I've spent very little time in, so I can't offer much advice. But I think "Heaven Bound" is from that area and might have some insights.

Don't miss the Maker's Mark Distillery. It is awesome. It is the only one that you get to tour the actual process. My brother and I weer there last year while they were bottling for the political conventions. We still have the bottles that we got to hand dip ourselves. saving them for a very special occasion. Maybe our ride this year??

Watch out for the rainstorms. Mingo County was heavily flooded back in May. WVDOT is great on clean up, but that coal dust and dirt is really slick when wet.

You might want to refer to my trip report "Adventure in Appalachia" and make some notes on the great roads in eastern KY you'll want to ride to/from the bourbon country to the west...
