My work schedule is giving me a nice little break next month, and my wife thought it would be fun to go to Europe for a motorcycle race.  As luck would have it, BSB is racing at the Croft Circuit that weekend.

For those of you in the know...how is the racing there?  Affordable accommodations close by?  We will fly in to Gatwick and rent a car so we can sight see as well.

Any and all recommendations and suggestions are welcome!

Croft is in North Yorkshire which is about 4 or 5 hours (I think) from Gatwick via the Motorway.

If London isn't on the agenda, you might consider flying into Birming-HUM  Bigsmile

The south is a lot more congested than the north  Smile

Lots of great motorcycling roads in Yorkshire, and the Lake District (argueably the most scenic area in England) is nearby.

I've never been to the Croft circuit, so no help there.

If you drive from London, you'll probably blast up the M1/A1(M). As you near the circuit, you'll be flanked by the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors, both worth a tour. Visit Whitby for fish and chips (it's where Count Dracula arrived in England). Visit York for the cathedral and rail museum. You can spend some money in the upmarket shops in Harrogate. Grassington in the Dales is a nice village, one among many.

Check out www.enjoyengland.com for B&B's.

Thank you!  My wife just called from Hawaii and I told her the trips to the British Isles were in the works.
While flying into Birmingham or Edinburgh would be nice, I have a direct flight from Atlanta to either London airport available from the airline I fly for, making the fares very affordable.

Visit Whitby for fish and chips

There's a quaint little village near Whitby called Robins Hood Bay. Hardly any streets to speak of, just narrow alleys

Isn't that Staithes? I spent a week there once and it rained and rained and rained.....

The area is very good for fossil hunting too. Visit Whitby Museum-which also has a display of boats. When I visited, a nice young woman with an American accent asked a curator if the museum had Dracula's boat. He kindly directed her to a ship model that, he said, would have been fairly similar.

Alongside the Yorks Moors and the Lake District, the Derby Dales are a good place to go. Northumberland has some stunning beaches and som e of the best castles.

If you need help, I'm about 15 miles south of Gatwick.

No, it's Robin Hoods Bay. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood's_Bay

It's well worth a visit, but do it on a weekday if you can. Tourists. RHB is like Polperro (Cornwall) or Clovelly (north Devon). You park at the top of the hill, then walk down through the village to the bay. Very picturesque.

Wonderful stuff gentlemen!

It will be great fun to tour these places with such lengthy history.  Robin Hood, Captain James Cook, and fish 'n chips!
