I’ve decided to submit this area for consideration because I have firsthand knowledge of the motel & area & this place is da' bomb area for a cycle meet. Has it been mentioned that you get a lot for your money here?

Location: Lewisburg, WV

Date: June 15 & 16, 2010

Motel: Brier Inn (www.brierinn.com)

Nightly motel rates: Per person - $69.00 for single… $74.00 for double. (These are not group rates. A group rate would need to be negotiated by the meet organizer)

Info on dining: On site restaurant (Jefferson St Grill) which has outstanding food (slow service). Ruby Tuesdays across parking lot. Shoney’s Restaurant across parking lot. Historic Lewisburg has many additional restaurants downtown including “Food and Friends” which has been recognized by The Food Network. I almost forgot to mention… The hotel also has a very decent & "HOT" continental style breakfast that is part of your room cost.

Brief Summary of Benefits: Besides killa’ roads? Lewisburg is steeped in history. The Brier Inn has a large amount of rooms and "style" of rooms for the fufu guest, on-site banquet facilities (that are catered & reasonably priced), gas station across parking lot, convenience store across parking lot, bike wash onsite,  Walmart short walk, comfy pillows, access to small conference room for registration (that is a negotiation made by organizer), large parking area which is fairly private around back of rooms/hotel, curbside out-yer-door bike parking, on-site adult beverage facility aka "a bar" (Brier Patch). BP has seating areas indoors/outdoors. There is a pool & the hotel has clean rooms. I will add more as I remember things. For those that do not wish to ride & are the artsy fartsy type, Carnegie Hall of WV is located there (http://www.carnegiehallwv.com/). You may wish to take in a show.
Lewisburg is also centrally located on the East Coast. Being right off the I-64 exit for Lewisburg, Is easily accessed by I-64 & I-77. Make note: even though there is good access to the interstate, this hotel is not positioned on the main roads or highways.

Brief Rundown on roads to ride (To also include Virginia roads): The notorious & awesome Rte 16, Rte 10 over Herndon Mountain, Burkes Garden, Rte 311 over Potts Mtn, Rte 3, Rte 250, Rte 33, Rte 56, Rte 60, don’t forget the must do New River Gorge ride thru bottom of gorge, Rte 20, Rte 219, Rte 39, Tour Cass Scenic Railroad. In all honesty, there is way too much for me to list here. There is a plethora of backroads that are suitable for riding, also.

Did I mention that I have all of the FJR Eastern Owners Meeting routes that were used in Garmin GPS format (for informational use only)

Photos of hotel: I have some but cannot post pictures from here due to block on pic hosting sites. Please look at the website for a few pics of the hotel. Make special note of the out-yer-door parking.

Camping: A quick search about camping shows Greenbrier State Forest Camground is 8 miles from the hotel. It is located "in" the mountains... 3280 feet, to be exact. Campground has all good amenities for tent camping. Per their website: Each site features electric hookup, a picnic table and stone fireplace with a grill.  A central bathhouse provides guests with hot showers and restroom facilities.  Water is available at a central location.   Facilities are fully accessible.  Firewood and ice are available from the attendant on duty. Website is here: http://www.greenbriersf.com/

On another note... I urge you to look at Brier Inn's website. There is more info there than I have provided here. A visit to their website by me sees that there is even a free gym membership for Brier Inn guests, free Wi Fi, etc

I roomed next to luvtoride at last years FJR EOM - great hotel and area, good food (at Ruby Tuesdays - try the steak!) etc except the guests stay up till all hours of the night drinkin' in the parking lot  Bigsmile

Seriously, a great place. I was actually disappointed to here this years meet was going to be in Tennessee after expriencing what WV has to offer. 10 thumbs up!

I'm counting down the days here. Routes are loaded, holidays booked, money... well thats what CC's are for!

Got my fingers crossed for good weather like last year. The only rain I got on the entire trip was the first night in Lewisburg - and that was just a sprinkle. Nice cool mountain mornings and mid 70's and sun during the day... FANTASTIC.

+1 on the Brier Inn, especially for a larger size group.

I am looking at a broke bike right this moment. I am sure that it won't stay thata' way... but there is a possibility that repair time will ruin my plans for EOM depending on what the issue with it is. Waiting to hear from local dealer. Expect that the thread hijack needs to stop now, too. If you'd like to chat, please PM me, Heidi

It looks as though when I called the Brier Inn I wasn't given much of a group rate - i.e. it was exactly the same as their regular rate. It could just be time of year or a price increase, but just an FYI.

I am speaking from experience, a group rate would need to be negotiated with the hotel manager. He does not answer the phone. You'd need to ask for him. They will not give a group rate if you're talking to the front desk. Nor will a group rate be a huge discount. Honestly, the room prices are not out of line, anyhow. It is well worth the price of admission. You even get a decent (hot) breakfast included in your room charge.

Their breakfasts were REALLY good, and not REALLY good 'for hotel' food. Everyday, something different, lots of fresh fruit and decent coffee.  Just don't drink the coffee in the room  EEK!
