I’ve decided to submit this area for consideration because I have firsthand knowledge of the motel & area & this place is da' bomb area for a cycle meet. Has it been mentioned that you get a lot for your money here?

Location: Lewisburg, WV

Date: June 15 & 16, 2010

Motel: Brier Inn (www.brierinn.com)

Nightly motel rates: Per person - $69.00 for single… $74.00 for double. (These are not group rates. A group rate would need to be negotiated by the meet organizer)

Info on dining: On site restaurant (Jefferson St Grill) which has outstanding food (slow service). Ruby Tuesdays across parking lot. Shoney’s Restaurant across parking lot. Historic Lewisburg has many additional restaurants downtown including “Food and Friends” which has been recognized by The Food Network. I almost forgot to mention… The hotel also has a very decent & "HOT" continental style breakfast that is part of your room cost.

Brief Summary of Benefits: Besides killa’ roads? Lewisburg is steeped in history. The Brier Inn has a large amount of rooms and "style" of rooms for the fufu guest, on-site banquet facilities (that are catered & reasonably priced), gas station across parking lot, convenience store across parking lot, bike wash onsite,  Walmart short walk, comfy pillows, access to small conference room for registration (that is a negotiation made by organizer), large parking area which is fairly private around back of rooms/hotel, curbside out-yer-door bike parking, on-site adult beverage facility aka "a bar" (Brier Patch). BP has seating areas indoors/outdoors. There is a pool & the hotel has clean rooms. I will add more as I remember things. For those that do not wish to ride & are the artsy fartsy type, Carnegie Hall of WV is located there (http://www.carnegiehallwv.com/). You may wish to take in a show.
Lewisburg is also centrally located on the East Coast. Being right off the I-64 exit for Lewisburg, Is easily accessed by I-64 & I-77. Make note: even though there is good access to the interstate, this hotel is not positioned on the main roads or highways.

Brief Rundown on roads to ride (To also include Virginia roads): The notorious & awesome Rte 16, Rte 10 over Herndon Mountain, Burkes Garden, Rte 311 over Potts Mtn, Rte 3, Rte 250, Rte 33, Rte 56, Rte 60, don’t forget the must do New River Gorge ride thru bottom of gorge, Rte 20, Rte 219, Rte 39, Tour Cass Scenic Railroad. In all honesty, there is way too much for me to list here. There is a plethora of backroads that are suitable for riding, also.

Did I mention that I have all of the FJR Eastern Owners Meeting routes that were used in Garmin GPS format (for informational use only)

Photos of hotel: I have some but cannot post pictures from here due to block on pic hosting sites. Please look at the website for a few pics of the hotel. Make special note of the out-yer-door parking.

Camping: A quick search about camping shows Greenbrier State Forest Camground is 8 miles from the hotel. It is located "in" the mountains... 3280 feet, to be exact. Campground has all good amenities for tent camping. Per their website: Each site features electric hookup, a picnic table and stone fireplace with a grill.  A central bathhouse provides guests with hot showers and restroom facilities.  Water is available at a central location.   Facilities are fully accessible.  Firewood and ice are available from the attendant on duty. Website is here: http://www.greenbriersf.com/

On another note... I urge you to look at Brier Inn's website. There is more info there than I have provided here. A visit to their website by me sees that there is even a free gym membership for Brier Inn guests, free Wi Fi, etc

I roomed next to luvtoride at last years FJR EOM - great hotel and area, good food (at Ruby Tuesdays - try the steak!) etc except the guests stay up till all hours of the night drinkin' in the parking lot  Bigsmile

Seriously, a great place. I was actually disappointed to here this years meet was going to be in Tennessee after expriencing what WV has to offer. 10 thumbs up!

I'm counting down the days here. Routes are loaded, holidays booked, money... well thats what CC's are for!

Got my fingers crossed for good weather like last year. The only rain I got on the entire trip was the first night in Lewisburg - and that was just a sprinkle. Nice cool mountain mornings and mid 70's and sun during the day... FANTASTIC.

I am looking at a broke bike right this moment. I am sure that it won't stay thata' way... but there is a possibility that repair time will ruin my plans for EOM depending on what the issue with it is. Waiting to hear from local dealer. Expect that the thread hijack needs to stop now, too. If you'd like to chat, please PM me, Heidi

It looks as though when I called the Brier Inn I wasn't given much of a group rate - i.e. it was exactly the same as their regular rate. It could just be time of year or a price increase, but just an FYI.

I am speaking from experience, a group rate would need to be negotiated with the hotel manager. He does not answer the phone. You'd need to ask for him. They will not give a group rate if you're talking to the front desk. Nor will a group rate be a huge discount. Honestly, the room prices are not out of line, anyhow. It is well worth the price of admission. You even get a decent (hot) breakfast included in your room charge.

Their breakfasts were REALLY good, and not REALLY good 'for hotel' food. Everyday, something different, lots of fresh fruit and decent coffee.  Just don't drink the coffee in the room  EEK!

Not only is there no chocolates on the pillows... sometimes the beds are on the opposite side of the room! Really!

And as far as chocolate is concerned... there is a Walmart withing walking distance to buy some. You can even buy breath mints to put on your pillow!

I have ridden out of Lewisburg and up the road at Marlinton.  Great roads and the Briar Inn is a great place.  A super great place for a national.

Maybe edit the title to take the work "Option" out???

Here is the contact info for the manager at the Brier Inn. He said the organizer should contact him once he/she has firm dates and a good estimate on the number of rooms needed in the block (probably about 30?). So whoever steps up to organize this event will need this:

If you take about any road North of Lewistown, it just gets better and better.  You don't run out of excellent roads in WV, just time to ride them.

Mid week?  Is that right?  I LOVE it!

National General Information

Dinner depends on who is planning it. Generally, there's a get-together both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. People arrive some time on Tuesday and take off on Thursday. Wednesday is spent riding the local roads or getting new tires  Embarassment

Because it's mid week and I keep such a tight schedule is there historically one day that's more interesting than the other?

I'm only going to take 3 days for this so that's one day to get there, one day there, one day to go home.  I'm thinking ride there the 15th, ride local roads the 16th, ride home the 17th.

How bad is it that I'm stressed out about scheduling time off for a motorcycle rally?  Damn.

Typically, regional or wahtever, people are still straggling in the first day of the event. The night before the "I'm heading home day" is typically the best parking lot drinking, bullshitting night.

It's still a long way off, but that is something I may consider.  There is Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park between Lewisburg and Marlinton which is pretty close plus many, many others at various distances.

Rates will be going up (per the manager in Oct), so it might be best to lock in something decent now.

Hey Doug,

I posted the managers name and contact info on page 2 of this thread. Someone should take the lead on the group reservation and be the voice of STN. If not you, someone you are working with... We don't want the manager to have to deal with more than one person.

A couple things to be wary of:

- Some hotels want one check/payment for the whole group. Don't go there.
- Beware of penalties if some percentage of the blocked out rooms aren't reserved.
- Some hotels want sizable deposits. I had to put a deposit to make the Lake Placid reservation, but it was about the cost of my room, so no biggie.
- Be sure to know the cancellation policy

All we want is 25-30 rooms (figuring 60 people, double occ) reserved at (hopefully) a discounted rate. The normal rate at the Brier is pretty cheap, so that might not be an option. People will make/pay for their own reservations. Any rooms not reserved 30 days before the event are released for general sale. Late reservations (within 30 days) can still get the group rate if any rooms are available.

For previous ESTNs (and WV RAT Gatherings), these terms were spelled out in a contract they mailed to me that I had to sign and fax back. The only place that wanted a deposit so far has been the EconoLodge at Lake Placid. I think I've been lucky. When the hotel realizes that this is just a web forum, not a club with officers, dues, a treasurer, etc, then they understand the situation a little better.

Thanks Garry.  I agree, we don't want to overwhelm the hotel with multiple calls.

I was planning on calling them at the end of this month when the poll of "How Many" will end.  However, based on the trend so far, it appears the need of 25-30 rooms is right on par.

Another thing I'm starting to work on is looking into dealer involvement for the event.  I'm looking to see if anyone would like to be the "official" shop of the STN meet so if anyone needs anything like a new tire or battery, perhaps a local shop would be willing to offer a group discount or donate doorprizes.

The EconoLodge in Lake Placid was fine, but other properties that were in the mix for ESTN wanted much larger deposits and/or had significant penalties if 90% of the rooms booked weren't reserved. Just posting a heads up for some things to be awre of when negotiating a group reservation. Ultimately, I had to sign my name on the contract and be personally/fiscally responsible for it, so understand the fine print before signing.

I think the Brier Inn will be fine with our needs, especially if you book before they become a Quality Inn (subject to corporate rules/guidelines).

Is there anyway someone can grant me access to the initial post in this thread?  While luvtoride has done an excellent job in the initial post, this thread has become the official page for go to information on the meet.  Since I have volunteered to organize, it would most excellent if I could use the initial post to edit in order to add updates as we go.

Sorry, the new thread has been started.  Thanks to luvtoride for recommending Lewisburg.  Now that it has been selected, the official business is underway.

There is no longer a reason to post to this thread re: the 2010 National

The rotation is:
Custer, SD
Eureka Springs, AR
Gunnison, CO
WV/TN/Smoky mountains

then it repeats.  Are you afraid your RC45 won't make it all the way to Colorado?

No, he's afraid that Colorado won't be able to sustain all his RC45.
