Barry Bertram is broken down in Kansas City. His clutch slack knob/wheel has broken. The dealer he's at advises they can't fix this until Wednesday.

Is there anyone in the area that could take him a clutch slack knob/wheel? I'm unable to drive to KC tonight.

If he can't get assistance, then he's going to have his brother drive from St. Louis with a trailer to bring the bike to me in Oklahoma to work on. That'll cost him 10 hours to get here and most likely DNF his ride...

Sad  Damm, he's not having a easy go at this Rally.  Sad

I wish I could but I'm too far away to be helpful in time.

If he needs more tension, couldn't he stack small visegrips on the cable near the lever?

Alan Bennett is en route to pick up Barry and the Ninja 250 and return to Alan's residence. The dealership drained the oil and then refused to re-fill the oil due to metal shavings in the oil.

Stay tuned...

He needs less tension. It was over-tightened in the past 24 hours, causing major clutch slippage. The metal shavings in the oil are probably from excessive heat on the clutch plates.

"The padding on the clutch plates is completely gone, with major scoring into the plates themselves..."
- Alan Bennett

Alan is beginning to pull the clutch assembly out of his yellow 250 so that Barry can continue around O' dark thirty.

I hope this doesn't destroy his chances of finishing. Berry has some serious catching up to do.

Alan Bennett completed the clutch swap about 0030 this morning. Barry took a short nap afterward and was back on the road at 0438 this morning.
