I'm (still) shopping for a bike.  I've been looking into the YZF600's, and they would definitely serve my needs, possibly with one exception.  I called the Yamaha dealer and they don't make a center stand for it.  Does anyone know if there is an after market one available?

Personally, I don't think you can call any bike without a center stand a Sport Touring bike.  I've found them to be necessary when traveling.

No.  The fairing lowers extend all the way back to almost touching the rear tire and the frame has no lugs for it.  I'm sure you could fab something up if you really wanted to, but in over 30K sport touring miles on a YZF600R I never felt the need to have a center stand (of course I did install swingarm spools on it though).

Thanks James, that's what I suspected.  I've had a number of people question my need for a center stand, so its definitely not something everyone agrees on.  I just know that when I did some light touring without one, I missed it enough that I decided its on my personal requirements list.

You may wanna consider this http://www.motorcycleradar.com/quick_stand.htm ,yea I know,it is not real center stand but it seems to get job done.
I`m actually thinking about getting one.

My g/f has yzf1000 ,it is PITA to lubricate the chain after long day,you gotta walk the bike, etc.

If that is one of your requirements and you want a medium sportbike, then you might consider the last iteration of the CBR600F4i. After the 600RR took over the mantle as Honda's race replica, they "practicalized" the F4i a bit, gave it a better seat and it has lugs and an offical accessory centerstand.

There are a coupla F4i threads over in the honda section.

Thanks for all the good info, I'll keep it in mind next spring when I pick up the search for a bike again.

Rule of thumb for trading motorcycles:

Buy in winter, sell in spring.

Very good advice...  but where I'm living currently I don't have a garage.  So rather than subject a bike to an Oregon winter, I'd rather leave it in its current owners garage, and buy it from them next spring.

Ah, James, you are a man of solutions!  Gotta love that.    Smile

I've changed course slightly in the last week, and now I'm looking for an older bike to keep around and ride during weather breaks this winter, and it will live under a cover.  Next spring I will look for "the bike", and probably a new place to live.  Hopefully it will have a garage.

The only time I've ever wanted a center stand is the above mentioned situation of oiling the chain.  Other than that, I guess I'm glad I don't have something to drag.

On the other hand, a magnesium center stand would make a great light show on the corners!

I had my friends CBR600F4i for about a month over the summer, and as much as I liked it, I was happy to start riding my own bike again. The lower bars on hers and rock hard Corbin seat diminished an otherwise great bike. I suppose the traditional banana seat on the last year of the F4i would greatly improve things though.

Speaking of which.  Did you ever get yours sold?
