While I still feel Peaks of Otter is a great destination, I voted for the Brier Inn in Lewisburg.

Lewisburg is an excellent hub for day rides and it has a wide variety of amenities to keep
everyone happy. The venue has also proven to be bike friendly.

I have done this in a lot of polls.... but I'm not going to vote. I go where ever it happens if nothing else gets in the way.

I have been to Lewisburg and it was nice. Price is right. Roads are great ... but if I had to pick (because I have never been there) Peaks of Otter

 And then not go!

The Peaks are in my back yard. I have to go with the Peaks.  There are more routes then you could ever ride in a month.  Although the parkway speed limit is 45 the parkway is far from the best riding in the area.  I have yet to be ticketed on the parkway & I run it at 55-65 all the time, just don't try it on the weekends. The only draw back is VA police are known to be less then leanant.

My second choice would be N GA, W NC, E TN  The roads are in far better condition then WV.

So, this year the national was in CO, a mere day ride away, but I didn't feel like going. Now, it's going to be 2 thousand miles away and I'm seriously considering attending. Bash

So what you are trying to say is after the poll is done... and lewisburg wins.

I certainly hope not

Once the location is firm, someone local/bored/over-achiever will usually step up and assume responsibility. I am hoping that this happens here as well  Thumbsup

Okay...I suggest that...

a) All the Canaan Valley voters raise the white flag and pick one of the remaining two options, and...
b) All the "I don't care" people get off the fence and pick a side!

 Bigsmile
Scott

PS - I also suggest that if nobody steps up to organize Lewisburg, WV...then the meet goes to Peaks of Otter by default.  Razz

I haven't been on this board long but would like to attend if possible.
Since I am unfamiliar with all the locations I voted I don't care.
I always end up going to Ar to ride since those are the closest good roads to my location.
I would enjoy a trip to the east.

Well, I was going to come over but I'm not so sure now. The bestest person on STN, Stefrrr, is now off the Mejico. And Ray will no doubt be off fixing things.

Driving on the wrong side of the road without a chaperone seems a bit daft.  Wink
Well if you do make it over and are around for the National i would be honoured to show you around if you like.

I just this moment booked the time off. How fortuitous!!
I've never been to Lewisburg, but dig WV in general, so that's my bandwagonhopping for the day.  Bigsmile

I'm new here, but I cast my vote for Lewisburg,WV. I have ridden the BRP many times and it is without a doubt one of the greatest rides anywhere, but some of my friends have told me they like WV better. I am looking forward to a ride there in 2010. Hopefully I will be able to schedule some time off when this event is scheduled! I have also heard that the locals and the police are much more friendly than they are in VA,although I haven't had any bad experiences in VA ( maybe I have just been lucky ! )

I got bored last night and starting playing around with day trips from the Lewisburg area.  Keeping the routes at a distacne between 300 and 350 miles (give or take), I came up with a clover leaf style with four full days of riding.

NE loop - 359 miles - Skyline Drive, BRP, Goshen Pass, US 250 east of Monterey, and a few 600 routes.

SE loop - 342 miles - Rt. 311, a fairly large section of the BRP, and a few 600 routes.

SW loop - 330 miles - Big Walker Mountain & Rt. 16 from Marion all the way to Beckley, WV!

NW loop - 288 miles - US 60 from Rainelle to Gauley Bridge, WV, New River Bridge (including Scenic Rt. 82 which goes under the bridge), the Highland Scenic Hwy, and a 600 route.

It looks like it's going to be a fun week for me!   Bigok

Not a thread I want to be juvenile in. Big sorry.

I really hope to come over. Stef will be away but has offered , most generously, her bike. But I confess I will be a little unsure of the riding stuff in the US. I've done Yurp enough times, but it is much closer.

What's to be unsure of? Stay on the correct side of the road and have fun!

Stef has offered her bike, but if you fly into Newark (NJ) (or something close), we can arrange to pick you up and house you for a night or two  Thumbsup

Where in PA do you want to be? Here's a map showing Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA (Philly's in the southeast corner of the state, just for reference). It's about 1 1/2 hours from one Newark to Philly.

Just to add to the incentive, I'd also be happy to pick you up at the airport in Norfolk, Va and let you borrow the 96 F4i (I'll even have the pink and purple repainted before then)

Start making plans, I'll glad chaperone you on our roads.

FWIW, I spoke to the manager at the Brier Inn last week about the National. Turns out they are becoming a Quality Inn next year and rates are going up. He gave me his business card and said to have someone contact him via email once we have firm dates and estimated headcount (number of rooms needed). He figured a group rate under Quality Inn should be about what the current regular rate is.

He didn't mention any renovation. I assume it was just being assimilated into the franchise or something. I could be wrong though. It was short conversation. I just wanted contact info and he was on his way out the door for the day.
