On Sunday, 9/20, I drove the Sport Tour route for the Dream House 500 to check the route sheet. I wimped out and drove the pickup instead of riding the bike. It poured rain the whole day and I had to make notes on the route sheet. 281 miles , 452 kilometers (oops!  ). Right at 7 hours transit time. With two 15 minute rest breaks and a one hour lunch break, we can figure on a 8.5 hour ride. Everyone should be able to be on a "smell the roses" pace, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and get back in plenty of time for the steak dinner. You can even stay a little longer at the lakeshore catered lunch stop and listen to the live music entertainment there just for us. There were several of the old favorite roads in Georgia (and a couple new to me), but also several more new to me hidden jewels just over the NC border. Smooth, twisty pavement, off the beaten path, surrounded by greenery. Beautiful and fun.

I wonder if I could make better time on a bike on a dry road than in a crew cab pickup during a monsoon.

If I can get my act together, I plan to pre-ride the Adventure Tour route on my WeeStrom on Sunday 9/27. Unless we have another monsoon. I need to make sure there are no washouts on the FS roads. The Adventure Tour routemeister said it took him 8 hours of saddle time to ride the 240 miles. Add 1.5 hours for breaks and lunch, and we are looking at 9.5 hours total. We will have to stay on it all day. That's for sure! I love an all day ride. Bigsmile

Sounds like you guys have come up with another good route.  I am looking forward to riding some of the hidden jewels.  Thanks for all your effort.  See you on Saturday.
