huge discounts on leftover KTM SuperDukes.......?????Why?????
«
on:
September 29, 2009, 04:33:27 AM »
I'm getting the itch for another bike and really have a hard-on for the Super Duke 990 or 690. I'm finding leftover 08's that listed for $14995 going for under $10000 which is really making my itch worse!!!!
Why the huge discounts........is there something that I am missing or don't know about?
I read very little about maintenance cost and reliability of KTM, any opinions?

I noticed a SD at a nearby KTM shop for a similar low price. Interesting question. Perhaps there is a factory incentive on them, I don't know.

Those bikes are almost 2 years old and the dealers are tired of paying the taxes on 'em. They need to move them.

The dealers are paying interest on the floor plan they have, it is the end of the season and they are not going to want to sit on them for another 6 months, move them now at little profit (if any) or continue to pay......I have seen a dealer up in Buffalo advertising on E-bay 08 Superduke's for $8500

They are great bikes. I know KTM offers dealers incentives to help them move new/leftover stock. That's how I got my SMR at thousands off list ($4K+ off MSRP).

I really started considering the SuperDuke when I saw dealers advertising them in the $8500.00 to $9000.00 range- and at that time KTM was including either a "track" or "sport touring" package of accessories in the deal. I understand that KTM will release a new for '2010 SD to replace the (non) current model. As good as 5 to 6k off of MSRP was I kept looking. And then I found a dealer who would sell me a new leftover 2007 Bimota DB6 for $13,000.00, including a pair of ZARD carbon fiber slip-ons ($1199.00), a rear axle stand, and a fitted cover- a retail value of $30,600.00. He sold my buddy a 2006 DB5 ($39,800 MSRP) for $13,000.00 out the door too. Just can't ignore those prices.

You should post this in the "Bimota" forum.
Or perhaps in the "I'm a lucky f*ck" forum.

Love my Superduke, bought mine used with 2,850 miles and Akaprovik exhaust installed. I highly recommend you buy one.
I was at Indy for the GP and apparently Superdukes were the offical track bikes for track employees, saw many of them. One thing that hit me is they don't sound good with the stock pipes. I'm not advocating straight drag pipes with ear drum shattering deciples, but the bike is too quiet stock.

This just might push me over the edge.

The same thing luring you into purchasing a Super Duke is what won me over on getting a leftover 990 Adventure. For starters, KTM lost several dealers over the past year due to the economy. Therefore, there were a lot of left over '08s to be sent out to existing KTM dealers.
I've had my Super Duke now for a little over two years and THAT'S A RECORD FOR ME.
I love the bike. Love it. I'm approaching 14,000 miles now and have not had one single problem (well, at least problems I could blame KTM for).

The dealer here traded 3 on his showroom floor back to KTM in exchange for something he could sell. KTM has done very little to market these bikes in the U.S. and they aren't going to sell without more marketing effort.

I just like the idea of a single cylinder sport bike. The MZ Skorpions powered by the Yamaha 660 single are really cool. There are also kits to convert 450cc dirt bikes over to a sport bike, which I also think is cool.

Insurance isn't a problem as I run 100/300/50 liability only. My nine bikes average $59.00 apiece for 12 months liability coverage- and that includes my '08 ZX-10R, my '07 Tuono, my '06 Speed Triple, my '02 FZ-1, my '99 ZRX1100, my '98 Superhawk, my '97 Bandit 1200S, and my '94 CB1000.

Kinda OT: New/leftover 2008 Honda CBR1000RR are going for $7000 all over the place these days. Might have to visit the local Honda shop this weekend and see if that means $7K plus tax/title/plate or not. I'm a huge sucker for screaming deals on leftovers and been wanting a sportbike again...

Since when does one need to justify a bike? It's one of the most impractical forms of trnasportation around as it is.

Well, The bike is a hell of a lot meaner looking than I am and I mostly do longer trips on a street bike so the naked bikes aren't going to work for me.
Still, it's one of the best feeling bikes I've ever sat on. I have not had a test ride. Nope. Not going to do it. Can't make me.

I certainly can understand part of your argument for not wanting a super duke (long distance travel). But believe me, being cool isn't a criteria of ownership. I present myself to the court as "Exhibit A" your Honor.

Dealer by me just raised the price on their sole SD that is the "demo" model (actually used by the owner).
But that leftover Blade and VFR for less than $8k...hmmm...still happy with the SD!

I just ordered my second SD in a year. I bought an 07' in October last year. Sold it this past July as I got offered everything I had in it. Big mistake. My dealer found me an 08' with a whopping 13 miles on it, White one and it will be here in two weeks. Can't wait..
