If I purchased a new BMW in Munich and shipped it back to the states (after a one week ride) any input on what the shipping cost would be to ORD, O'Hare International Chicago? I've been told around $800 US dollars????

I'm pretty certain that BMW stopped selling new US spec bikes in Europe to anyone except those in the armed forces.

US prices are probably cheaper than in Germany

In the '70s and early '80s it was a common practice for Americans to buy a BMW and pick it up at some German location. Ride around the Alps and when their trip was over deliver it to a pre-arranged dealer who would do the paperwork and any required mechanical/electrical mods. Customs paperwork stuff included.

Meet the bike at Customs in New Jersey, fill out the paperwork, and have their own bike that was perfectly legal, even in California, and continue your tour across North America secure in the knowledge that everything was on the up and up.

Visit your local dealer to see if such programs are still available.

You'll have to do your own math to see if there's any benefit to your pocketbook. IIRC most people broke even, but you had your own bike to ride on your vacation and then you brought it home.
