I checked with the Inn of the Hills group sales dept today and they say nobody has made a reservation. Crazy
Did anyone make the reservation without mentioning ST-Net group? Confused

Please let me know what is going on and if changes need to be made. DeadHorse

That is two confirmations, let me know when you make the reservations/

Rooms will be held until March 9th. Make your reservations now if you are planning on staying at the Host hotel.

If you are staying somewhere else, again please let me know where. The place with the most riders will become a rally point.

Thanks

One of the most popular rides in the area is called the "Three Sisters". It will definately be on my ride list.

Here is a write-up.

another ride is to go up to Fredricksburg(great microbrewery there) and up to Enchanted Rock.
http://www.motorcycleroads.com/routes/SouthWest/TX/TX_30.shtml
and add this route to it and have a lot of fun.

Any other rides you guys want to mention?

if you are going from Kerrville to Fredericksburg, once you get into F'burg take FM 965 north to Enchanted Rock - a great hilly, twisty road with a magnificant view of Enchanted Rock.

Once you get to Enchanted Rock and go by it, go on out to HW 16 and turn right (south) and go back about 10 miles to FM 1323 and turn right on it to go to Willow City. At Willow City, turn left (north) on the Willow City loop and take it for about 15 miles back to HW 16.

The Willow City loop is a slow speed tour down a one lane ranch road into a great canyon with some of the oldest rocks in Texas.  You will see deer, turkey, hogs and cattle running loose on the free range road.

These are both great rides. I will post up more routes this week.

LOTS and LOTS of good riding in the Texas Hill Country.

I am riding down this weekend to get a look-see at Kerrville. I haven't been there in 8 years so I have forgotten a lot about it.
I will report back preferred places to meet and rally points.

I have the Three sisters down as a preferred ride and those that are going that know the area can suggest more rides.

For those who have never been down there and want to see the sites, we will plan a trip into San Antonio (Alamo area).

anyone interested in sharing a room with a non-snoring non-smoker?

I have ridden the Hill Country area at least a dozen times on motorcycle, bicycle and car so I know the area quite well.

Looking for someone to share the cost..

Is Jetboy riding with you and BADFAST FJR?

There will be beer there at the  Host Hotel waiting on you guys.

I plan on getting a case for a welcoming party in the parking lot starting about 5:01 PM CDT.

I just got back from a 3 day round trip (scouting) to Kerrville. I  haven't been there in  20 years.

It is incredible - The 3 Sisters Ride will be worth the trip alone.
The only way I think I could beat it was go to the Dragons Tail.
I think it is better than the ride from Silver City to Alpine.
Plan to do it on Friday, cause there are usually cops patrolling it on the weekends.

In the middle of that ride is the Motorcycle Museum in Vanderpool - $5.00 and worth it. It is run by an Austrailian and he serves some great lunches.

The Inn of the Hills is definately a good choice for those who can afford it. There are still plenty of rooms.
If anyone has made a reservation there and did not put it under Sports Touring Net name, let me know what your price is cause I want all of you to get the best deal they offer.

The food there is unbelievable. I know when you think buffet, what comes to mind but Golden Corral, but, it is nothing of the sort. They have a buffet for every meal, and it is first class and affordable.

We have the party room at the Inn of the Hills  reserved for Saturday night, and I am working on suggestions for Thursday and Friday nite.

Some history of Enchanted Rock is a Famous Texan, Bigfoot Wallace, mentioned in several Davy Crockett stories, was part of a Texas Ranger company that defeated the Comanches there.

AND....Be careful about riding at night the deer are more plentiful than rabbits and squirrles and will run accross the road in herds in front of you.

More later on restaurants,

Bob

Bob - sounds like you have a good trip to the Hill Country.

About the warning on deer at night - it's not just at night, you MUST watch for them at all hours of the day and everywhere.

The Inn of the Hills has a great restaraunt.

One of the "must ride" routes in that area is to take HW 16 south out of Kerrville to 337 through Leakey and Vanderpool over to Camp Wood and then  HW 55 north out of Camp Wood to RockSprings where you you take 377 to 41 then come back on 335, which is in my opinion is the best of the "FM 335, 336,337 Sisters".

HW 55 makes it way up out of the river valley up onto a mesa and is a great, high-speed sweeper of a road with magnificant views and is an AWESOME road to ride.

When you come back on 335, which runs along and across the river and is like a roller coaster ride, you will go by a couple of ranches where they have all kinds of exotic animals like giraffe, kangaroo, camels, antelope and other stuff.

Be sure to stop at the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop on the north side of Leakey on FM 337 headed out to Camp Wood - they have a good grill and place to get "The Sisters" souvenoir shirts. Its a popular stopping place while out in the Hill Country and a good place to sit and chill for a minute.

http://www.friocanyonmotorcyclestop.biz/

Another interesting stop is the StoneHenge/Easter Island replica near Hunt, Texas and is on the way back to Kerrville from The Sisters.

http://www.legendsofamerica.com/TX-StonehengeII.html

As for places for us to eat on Thursday or Friday evening I suggest you check out Buzzies Bar-B-Q   Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup in Kerrville about a mile from the Inn of the Hills - GREAT Bar-B-Q.

Damn, gotta stop talking about all these routes, getting myself all jacked up about riding out there and can't do anything about it cause I am at work.

You folks who have never been to the Texas Hill Country are in for some good riding.
