I met a fella who made a bike like the Silent Gray Fellow in his basment (albeit, a very nicely equipped basement) . . . . .

Great skills -- it'd be fun to ride one of those things -- would also likely cut down on teh complaining about balky gearboxes and unrelliable rectifiers ;-}

That's how motorcycles would still look if they were designed by STN criteria:

1. Don't change the looks, new looks are ugly and strange
2. Keep it simple so I can maintain it myself the stealership ain't getting my money!
3. $10K is too expensive, but then I can always buy used!

2 1/2. Must be at least as technologically advanced as the "expensive" bikes of no more than 10 years ago, but cannot violate rule 2.
3. $10K is too expensive, but then I can always buy used after it becomes a cult bike because the manufacturer stopped importing them when nobody would buy them new.
