That still hurts to see!   Crazy  Anybody know what the story is behind that picture?

Yep... it ain't easy on the eyes... all those good parts going to waste...

Could be evidence of cost cutting measures... According to RRW... "Harely Davidson is
expected to spend 125 million just to shut Buell down".

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, so my apologies if this horse has been beaten. Why can't someone buy Buell? It just seems like there's so much there there to let it pass. What a waste. A simple redesign, IMO, of the pods would bump the appearance quite a bit.

For you new owners, from what I've read all appear to be happy with the bike. I haven't read any complaints about the bike's performance. Has anyone found the glitch that taints the bike?

As far as I've heard Buell isn't for sale.  The best guess I've heard of why is that there is too much Harley information tied up in the technology, particularly the XB Evo motors.

I should have said 'supposedly taints the bike.'

It seems to me that Buell was moving towards more Rotax motors, no? Aside from the motor (showrooms and marketing too, I guess), how does HD have its claws into the bike. Seems like the brand could become Rotax only.

By the way, KeS, how are you liking your bike?

There's no reason why HD couldn't have done the same to Buell.  Sell 'em...don't axe 'em.

As to the question of complaints on recently purchased Buells...
I've only got 850 miles on mine.  My gripes are as follows:

The mirrors are not spaced wide enough apart.  I'm a small guy and my shoulders still block most of the view.  I'm guessing broad shouldered guys can't see anything behind them.  The mirrors also vibrate a bit.

The fuelling at low rpm (3000-3500 rpm), low throttle openings is still not very smooth.  Cruising through town will cause the engine to surge.

The exhaust exits DIRECTLY onto the rear wheel and brake disc.

The bike tends to power wheelie in first or second without any provocation.  Oh wait.... Burnout

If you loosen the Torx screw on the mirror mount you can rotate them out some more.

If Eric Buell had won the DMG title with a homologated 600cc V4... he'd still be
in business today selling 600 V4 street bikes... as it turned out there was
not enough demand for another V2 on the market especially one considered
ugly and under powered...

I've got the R, not the CR.  I don't think that trick applies to the R.

I think you're stuck doing something like Cafe style mirrors on the ends of your handlebars on the R.

Did you ever come up with a solution for the narrow mirrors? It is a common complaint on a lot of bikes, and as a result I've seen a variety of solutions, ranging from swapping the mirrors for ones on longer stalks (less of an option for mirrors with integrated blinkers) to using spacers (there's probably some slack in the wires, or you can probably make an 'extension' to the wire).

Not yet.  There is plenty of slack in the wires to add a spacer between the fairing and the mirror base.  And that would be my preferred solution.  The vibration can be quelled with black silicone between the mirror and the housing.  I have been too busy with house remodeling and other issues to work on the bike much any.
